To be honest I don't know if SKZ is bigger than aespa in global metrics, but besides literally nothing, I think the average k-pop stan would recognize at least Next Level, Supernova, Whiplash, Drama and How Sweet before God's Menu and MANIAC. At least in the real world, those seemed more impacful than anything SKZ has ever produced. And again, I'm not talking about metrics but more of a general knowledge.

Out of both these groups, JK is the only one who is consistently above average.

I might be a bg stan, but I listen to a lot of girl groups too, something the majority of gg stans don't do because they tend to stick to gg music and that's a fact so I wonder how they know (apart from korean metrics) if any song by a bg is more impactul or not in their little gg stan bubble and this is not a critic, but I am genuinely curious.

 

Edit to say that, for example, even when they are my faves, I would never dare to discuss if ENHYPEN has bigger hits than aespa when I know they don't (but they ,and not aespa, were the headliners in the Music Bank in Madrid where both groups attended), but saying SKZ has no hits and people know every other aespa song but not one SKZ song is something you will only hear here in ATRL

Whiplash - 25 weeks (still charting)

How Sweet - 13 weeks

Drama - 11 weeks 

MANIAC - 5 weeks

God's Menu - 0 weeks

 

Boy groups really heavily on a demographic of young girls to move their products, but their music struggles to crossover. Because their demographic is loyal, they don't have a need to aim for hits.

 

Girl groups have more general public appeal but are more volatile because they don't get the solid fanbases that boy groups do. Girl groups get much bigger, more recognizable songs while boy groups are better at selling albums and photocards. Just look at how Aespa's and NJZ's title tracks destroy SKZ's in streams despite a fraction of the career and a fraction of the releases.
