The bigger issue with SM is they want to handle everything, and wants to recolt 100% of the profits, which is why SM USA is now SM & KAKAO Ent USA they want to keep everything at home, and fun fact SM&KAKAO USA which was founded in 2023. The difference with JYP which shut down JYP USA when they saw they couldn't manage sh*t.

And news flash SM&KAKAO opened specifically to manage & promote IVE, AESPA & NCT in the US. (exact words of CEO Joseph Chang) at first they use partnerships with other Records label for distributions deal, but since 2025 they feel like those deals are obselete and irrelevant.

 

Just because they don't know and cant do sh*t means they are not trying (and failing).

and how many original English songs targeting the US market have IVE and aespa released? Because Twice has released countless.

English songs don't mean targeting the US. For example, the Singer/Rapper Mirani has full English songs because it's easier to tour around Asia than to release multiple tracks in different languages. English ≠ Pandering to the US; in that case, New Jeans was pandering to the US with their TikTok-length songs, which were 80% in English.

 

Now Twice did target the US, but let's be honesrt if aespa had the same traction than Twice do you think SM would have stopped the project? I mean aespa in one year did a whole Fast & Furious Sample/Cover, Tetris OST, Life's Too Short, Better Things, while also getting Head In The Cloud US & Coachella call... You know, SM tried and skipped the project real quick, like they often do, when they see no result in a short period.
