Casually selling out stadiums in the US despite being a traditional kpop group without ever strictly pandering to the west with their music and none of the members being fluent in English nor any of them having any footing in Hollywood/American influencer culture. I mean they are absolute LEGENDS but who even doubted them tbh :clap3:

The majority of the singles they have put out this decade have been straight pandering to the West and theyre under the label that got the first GG breakout in the west in the 2000s with WGs. Y'all will constantly make **** up to gloat about Twice and try and get one over BP is comical :rip:

I think what @Witnessed ET was trying to say is that no one would've expected TWICE to become one of the biggest K-pop acts in the West when they first debuted with their cute concept. JYP's original vision for TWICE was to dominate the Asian market, which is why none of the members spoke English at the time and why they debuted with a large lineup of 9 members, a format that's uncommon in the West.

ITZY, on the other hand, was created with a stronger focus on the Western market from the start, featuring an English-speaking member, having only 5 members and a more edgy concept.

Nevertheless, TWICE went on to achieve global popularity and establish themselves with their signature K-pop sound and eventually shifted towards more English releases later.

That still doesn't change the fact that they weren't able to sell out their US tour just « casually » ? Otherwise they wouldn't have signed with a big US label, wouldn't have released songs in English, wouldn't have promoted in the US, and wouldn't have done collabs with US artists :deadbanana4:?

And having an English speaking member doesn't necessarily means that they want to focus in the US. Since the 1st gen, a lot of idols speak English for the SEA market!

Why do you keep pretending that it hasn't been years since Twice has been actively promoting in the US? How are they not pandering to the West with their multiple English songs and features :deadbanana4:? Like why deny the efforts that JYP and themselves made for them to grow in this market?

Very well said.

Twice is doing good and is always great to see a GG that has been around for more than 10 years still hold power but lies are being spread lately with the "reignited interest" and "not pandering to the west" comments.

They were already one of the most popular K-pop acts in the West with their K-pop sound, long before all of this. It wasn't until later that they began releasing English tracks more frequently.
That said, TWICE has definitely catered more to the Western market in recent years, since 2021, they've released as many English title tracks as Korean ones.

No one said that they weren't popular. Just like them, some of the 3rd gen acts  started showing signs of popularity in 2018 in the US.

But I don't know why you guys are pretending that JYP and Twice did nothing to cater to this market when it's false. If it were the case then it would have been just like Red Velvet

Props to JYP and Twice, their works paid off :clap3:

Exactly and when you look at ITZY formation. The pre-debut line up was Yeji, Lia (English Speaker), Ryujin, Chaeryeong & Somi (English Speaker). Lily (who is also another English Speaker) at one point was also considered to be part of ITZY and Yuna was part of NMIXX.

And When you go back to their debut year, there was a video where you could hear Dalla Dalla (English Version), which was released 3 years later.

BTOB Seo Eunkwang covered GOLDEN, he sang it in the original key.

You don't want to read what he said, He said it was harder to learn the lyrics than sing them.

jyp company stans are so funny because y'all are the same people who used to proudly post takes in previous gens about how you prefer tonedeaf idols who cannot support or project their voices without shouting over the "screaming" from idols like Luna that was actually just proper belting. Famed zionist/diddler JYP built a career off of monetizing boring people's natural attraction to mediocrity and safeness. They think there's nobility in choosing the lesser option but are the first to accuse others of having superiority complexes. It actually reminds me of the mindset of a certain political movement that's taken over my country. :boat:
