The Recording Academy is something you pay to get into and its members are just rich people who pay for their spots.

The Grammys are just a promotional tool that measure your industry connections but somehow people still think they make objective decisions about musical quality. Expect to see BTS win in 2027 no matter the quality of their next record.

But @Eternium told me that MYs and people in general don't care for Hot 100 since the 2000's? So what's the truth?

The truth is that Billboard had a massive drop-off in credibility and popularity once Nielsen SoundScan began publishing, which is why they're always chasing new forms of consumption trends started by other charting companies. The changes in metrics and inconsistent policing have really ruined their credibility and totally ****** up their all-time charts.

Just look at how irrelevant they are here now. We used to get 100+ pages weekly for Billboard threads and now I'm not even sure if they're news on this forum.

As long as stans are providing funds for other recipients to get singles/albums, I don't see the problem. One of the coolest things Thai MYs did is they bought Spotify/Apple Music for users who couldn't afford it.

The biggest problem to me is the fans who fundraise for music show votes. It's not even a form of consumption and it's literally just a tax on fans that doesn't even go to support their favorite artist. Like imagine taking $30k from a fanbase and not even giving them extra content or anything. It's basically the blind box of fan fundraising.

I find it curious Jungwon was the one invited, submitted, whatever, for the Grammy thing. I would say both Jay and Heeseung are the ones that stand out more as writers/producers (although Jungwon has some credits too in a couple ENHYPEN songs) I guess they decided to chose him as leader in representation of their group or something, which is quite funny because they choose Yeonjun for TXT, I guess the it boy payola never stops

jungwon-jungwon-gif.gif

Out of the four TXT members, who else would be leader???? Yeonjun was really the only available choice.

What would you like me to do in this situation, when he's been the one repeatedly bringing up these aespa vs. SKZ arguments since the start of the year? I thought we had moved past that, but then he brought it up again yesterday after months.

the Madonna of K-pop :jonny5:

2 hours ago, 2ne1k said:

Someone should maybe relay that information to SM :katie:

Regarding BB200, that's not true as KATSEYE just placed a 5-track EP at #4. BP also placed high with their minis disguised as full albums

Baby, if SM cared, physical sales would have been counted, they would have been on major American playlists, etc. The biggest fan complaint has been that SM doesn't care.

KATSEYE got one week at #4 with three singles and 360M+ playlisting across the three of them. They're now projected to fall to #20 and getting blocked by tons of old albums that have been kept around from song bloat. Morgan Wallen has literally managed to outdo the Billboard chart point peaks of Madonna, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Taylor Swift, etc. just by releasing double albums constantly, so yes, multiple singles, heavy playlisting and bloating album tracklists give you a huge benefit.

1 hour ago, Pluto6 said:

The reason why they even were predicted to chart on Hot 100, was literally because their sales were counted :skull:

I'm bookmarking this post, because when Stray Global drop their first Korean comeback of 2025, you're in for a reality check, bestie :hughard:Just a reminder: SKZ has already hit 1.7 billion streams on Spotify this year, while aespa sits at 700 million - that's a full 1 billion difference :deadbanana:

And let's talk about charting. Despite just having a comeback, aespa isn't even making it onto the Spotify Artist chart. Why? Because they're not pulling enough filtered daily streams. Meanwhile, KATSEYE - who had a comeback on the same day as aespa and have a much smaller discography - have no issue charting. (SKZ has never left this chart and has charted consistently since March 2022 which is more than 3 years :clap3:)

Oh, so suddenly Billboard - the world's biggest and most recognized chart - is "irrelevant" just because your local faves will never appear on it? Let me guess, MelOn and Circle are apparently more important for every global artist now? Be serious. There's a reason why every major artist, including your faves, dreams of charting on the Hot 100.

First it was downplaying Spotify, and now Billboard too? This is honestly the biggest cope I've seen in a while. :deadbanana: Cause if aespa actually managed to chart on Hot 100 this week, we would't hear the end of it from MYs :skull:

It's shaping up to become their biggest song on global charts with the most longevity

Yes, and the reason they didn't chart is because those physical sales weren't counted. What's not clicking?

SKZ already did a digital drop with a title track, and it didn't go well for them even with fans using Stationhead like crazy. I love that you only use Spotify because it's the streaming stat that is easiest to manipulate and most likely to be abused by hardcore fans. On platforms like Apple Music, Melon, Genie, YouTube Music, etc., Aespa are still ahead. I'll make sure to @ you so we can compare, though!

Katseye have 360M playlisting and three English singles along with a full mini dropping. They're on Discovery Mode and so their songs will play as recommended songs even for non-K-pop listeners. I love Katseye, but their discography is in no way comparable to a group that is primarily Korean. We have also had HYBE employees confirm that HYBE participates in payola to positively affect chart performance.

I've spoken out about what massive losers Billboard are and how hypocritical their staff is ever since The Eagles bought a #1 album and they reversed it from Britney after already releasing the chart. They had issues previously where artists were found guilty of airplay payola, but they were too lazy to update previous charts and just let fake airplay stand. Before that, they'd make up their sales charts. They've had tons of other weird instances where they take from artists they don't like (see: Lana Del Rey, Dua Lipa) and then reward artists that they do like. Their charts don't even make sense anymore which is why most stans resort to pure numbers now.

You're more likely to hear a stan mention stream count than chart position in 2025. The most surprising thing now is that Aespa antis are pretending that Billboard is the only metric that matters in the U.S. If I remember correctly, you're not even from the same continent as us so why are you trying to tell me my local chart matters when an American tells you it doesn't matter like it used to? Is this just a distraction so we don't compare the streams of Aespa's title tracks to the streams of SKZ's?

As for TWICE, you're just comparing a song on recently made charts to songs that didn't have those charts. LOA, Likey, Cheer Up, TT, Fancy, What Is Love, etc. were all smash hits with higher YouTube streams, digital sales, Melon streams, Genie streams, etc. It's good to see TWICE doing well, but there's no need to downplay their past success to say a moderate hit like Strategy is anywhere near the monster smashes they used to have. Strategy's not even popular because of the song of the group - it just happens to be on the tracklist of a popular album.

And then you went on to respond (which is fair) and then make several other posts directing mentioning them that were unrelated. Do you not understand how that looks? Eternium even told you they only brought it up as playful shade because they told you beforehand they would when aespas single outstreams SKZ. It's sprawled out into a 48 hour fight because you couldn't take some playful shade. You can't act mightier than though and claim demons are possessing you when you're doing equal amounts of aggravation including tons of direct mentions.
