This is not about who had the bigger more impressive career. This is entirely about their peak.

Do Janet stans realize that outside the anglosphere (95% of the world's population) Janet is either unknown or known just for being someone's sister?

I was going to say here for the mess, but ATRL hates Ms. Jackson so it should be an easy Beyonce sweep.

Janet Jackson peaked commercially and culturally at the same time. But Beyoncé peaked bigger culturally and her stratospheric explosion into icon/legend status is bigger and she is a bigger name now than Janet ever was. Beyoncé as a name and brand is much closer to that of Madonna or Whitney. Beyoncé could do stadiums at a time when most pop acts couldn't and Janet never reached that level. I'll have to give a slight edge to Beyoncé even though I love Janet.

Janet. Her peak as a star paved the way and inspired a generation of stars that we all stan to this day, with Bey being one.

Do Janet stans realize that outside the anglosphere (95% of the world's population) Janet is either unknown or known just for being someone's sister?

according to chartmasters

I Am Sasha Fierce - 21.9M

Dangerously In Love - 19.6M

Janet -19.5M

So in fact it's Beyonce

*in the US. That era kinda tanked in the UK and I expect Europe isn't huge either. Only 1 single went top 15.

WW it's Beyonce.

I would have to go for Bey since I didn't live through Ms. Jackson reign.

Halo, Single Ladies and IWAB were massive hits and catapulted the brand Beyonce as a Pop Star globally, are songs that relevant up until this day

In the US, I think Janet takes it - I mean her run from 1986 to 2001 alone was insane. Rhythm Nation having 7 top 5 singles and being the #1 album of 1990 - no one was touching Janet's run here

But outside, Beyonce

Factually, Janet was the fifth biggest MPG of her generation from 1986-2004 globally. She was right behind Madonna, Celine, Whitney, Mariah in her generation. That's like Jennifer Lopez or Xtina in the 2000s MPGs or Katy/Ariana in the 2010s generation. To write her off like she wasn't a major commercial force in those years in Europe or Asia is just stupid. She will always be on the Mount Rushmore of 1980s-1990s MPGs.

I do think Rhythm Nation as an era had more impact than any single Beyoncé era. In terms of what it tackled culturally. It is the anti-racism album.

Beyoncé since the impact was felt overseas too, not a shade cause i love Janet but it is what it is.

That's so Fox News from yesterday.

I hope you're aware that she's one of the best selling artists in Africa as well... but I think you don't.
