Better album? Joanne or Chromatica?

Featured Replies

Didn't really like anything from Joanne besides maybe Dancin' In Circles. I enjoyed Alice and Sour Candy a lot from Chromatica. I say Chromatica is the better album but it suffered from poor production

  • Dancin' In Circles is just the best song on the album. Best composition. It also just sounds more like a Lady Gaga song and is less generic. It's the only one I could listen to more than once besides

Can we talk about how both albums had terrible singles. Some of the worst songs from each album were chosen as singles. Diamond Heart and Dancin' In Circles should've been singles from Joanne and Alice and Sour Candy should've been singles from Chromatica

Alice - Diamond Heart

Stupid Love - A-Yo

Rain on Me - Joanne

Free Woman - John Wayne

Fun Tonight - Dancin' in Circles (neither to make up for the SL - A-Yo double discography top 20 slay)

911 - Perfect Illusion

Plastic Doll - Million Reasons

Sour Candy - Sinners Prayer

Enigma - Come To Mama

Replay - Hey Girl

Sine From Above - Angel Down

1000 Doves - Grigio Girls

Babylon - Just Another Day

Chromatica won since is the better album, but I still love Joanne :heart2: both are so underrated imo

They're both mid and not true to heart albums. I'd have to go with Datedmatica because of the bops that are scattered, though the whole albums gives May 2020 in the worst way, while Joanne gives 2016 election cycle in a laughable way.

Joanne is one of the weakest albums ever released by a major pop artisté. Chromatica is great, although simple.

Dancin' In Circles is terrible and I lol when little managers say it should've been a single/would've been a hit :deadbanana:

They were released exactly during those times though? :rip:

Dancin' In Circles is the best song on Joanne. It deserved to be a single, even if it wouldn't have been a hit, although I'd argue nothing on that album sounds like a hit. It's the standout on the album

I go back more often on Chromatica but Joanne is not the disaster as some say, there is some really good songs in it

Joanne is more cohesive and stronger. PI and MR are great singles too. Should have pushed diamond heart as another single.

you're onto something here :deadbanana4:

OT: I really like both, but i feel that Joanne is more "mid" in the sense that chromatica has higher highs and waaaaaay, way lower lows, while Joanne is more consistent as a whole, if that makes sense.

I like Joanne, i think it's a great, raw album and there's not one song that I hate there. While Chromatica has songs that i loved at the time, it has songs that i HATE, like

Free Woman (tks Rina for an almost good version of the song, the demo still eats tho), Fun Tonight (tks Pabllo for the listenable version of the song), Plastic Doll (sounds like someone tried to recreate a song from The Fame by memory) and 1000 Doves.

Alice vs. Diamond Heart

Stupid Love vs. A-YO

Rain on Me vs. Joanne

Free Woman vs. John Wayne

Fun Tonight vs. Dancin' in Circles

911 vs. Perfect Illusion

Plastic Doll vs. Million Reasons

Sour Candy vs. Sinners Prayer

Enigma vs. Come To Mama

Replay vs. Hey Girl

Sine From Above vs. Angel Down

1000 Doves vs. Grigio Girls

Babylon vs. Just Another Day

Chromatica - 7

Joanne - 5

Tie - 1

Alice - Diamond Heart

Stupid Love - A-Yo

Rain on Me - Joanne

Free Woman - John Wayne

Fun Tonight - Dancin' in Circles

Sour Candy - Sinners Prayer (This western bop is my fave song from Joanne)

Replay (This Dark Bop is my Fave from Chromatica) - Hey Girl

Sine From Above - Angel Down

1000 Doves - Grigio Girls

How is it the standout of the album when it has nothing to do with its core sound or theme? And I ask this genuinely and politely, not in a shady "I'm right" way. To me the best song on Joanne is easily the title track; great vocals, musicianship, lyrics and melody.

I'm actually a big Joanne fan.

Chromatica: 6

Joanne: 7

Alice - Diamond Heart

Stupid Love - A-Yo

Rain on Me - Joanne

Free Woman - John Wayne

Fun Tonight - Dancin' in Circles

911 - Perfect Illusion

Plastic Doll - Million Reasons

Chromatica obvi. But it's still only a 7.5/10. I've been waiting for GaGa to release another truly great album for over a decade.

ARTPOP is better than both but the world gave Gaga hell for it. :coffee:

But ATRLers do too much with both of these albums.

They're not that bad even if they're not that great either. Disease feels like a victory after coming from these if we are keeping it real.
