When I was little, probably 7 or 8, I spent a summer working in the library at our church helping out the elderly woman who ran it. It was no bigger than a large broom closet but we had a notable amount of religious books for all age ranges as well as an extensive collection of cassette recordings of every Sunday sermon going back a decade or two. I'd sit in there all day helping her catalog the index cards and keep record of who had borrowed what. We wrote on index cards all day long and listened to the recorded sermons, which included the choir's worship service at the beginning. "Nearer, My God, To Thee" was always my favorite hymn by a long shot. I wanted to emulate listening to it on the tiny tape player in that little library for Perverts. It's a fond memory of mine, just wanted to share :)

all of the base texture and brown noise that serves as the foundation for the entire project is field recordings of rushing water from three sisters island at niagara falls that i paulstretched. i had a special day there recording it and it stitches the project together so i quite like that. i also love the vocal loop on thatorchia, that was fun.

i bought this old box of sermon tapes from the 70s and 80s last year and was listening to them one night and heard that segment and it stood out to me.

 

Genuine question and this is not shade - if you do enjoy this album, is this the normal kind of music you listen to? I tried giving this a listen, made it few the first few songs / skipped around a little but to me it just sounds like… a horror movie score & white noise essentially? Not something I will listen to again but I find her to be very interesting.

Not really, but I find her artistry so interesting that I would listen to anything she put out. Not all of this project is for me, but it's very well executed, she's so talented at creating an aesthetic and world-building. I've been listening to some of the artists she was inspired by, like Grouper, and I like what I've been hearing so far! I love it when an artist exposes me to a new genre I would've otherwise not thought of listening to

The way this album is creeping me tf out and im only 1 track in 

70% of it is literally creepypasta music that you would hear playing in the background of a top 10 scariest paranormal encounters caught on camera youtube video.

 

However I truly enjoyed a few of the songs, very beautiful 

 

 

The title track is my favorite. Housofpsychoticwomn was out already and it's too repetitive for how long it is. Will probably skip halfway on future listens.

Houseofpsychoticwomn, vacillator,  onanist, thatorchia, and amber waves are my fave tracks along with miss punish.

 

do Not care for etienne at all like. i will be skipping that one.

This album is interesting. It made my mind stop thinking, which is impossible to do lol. I like the pink noise throughout but the lack of melody and overall vocals makes it something that needs to be digested differently. It's not a singing in the car album, it feels like the dead of winter and something I'd turn on when I'm on a night walk in the cold weather (like tonight) or doing chores around the house. It was lowkey locking me in to what I was doing and brought me back into my body, even though it was dark. I don't feel like it's grotesque like Ptolemea. It's more neutral. 
 

It's like the inverse of PD, mostly instrumental songs with only a couple songs with actual vocals and melody. Vacillator >>>
 

I also agree with the comments about Ethel giving "try hard", not so much because of how excruciatingly void and haunting these songs are but because of Punish. Why are we writing from the perspective of a man who molested a child? It just doesn't seem like something anybody asked for and def not something we were missing in music lol, it's borderline creepy of her and if not that, it's just oddly attention seeking but whatever, it might be one of her hyperfixations. I honestly like this way more than I expected.

I like the album but truly the brain rotted stans on TikTok preemptively judging people who *may* end up not clicking with the album (because it's mostly pink noise and pitched down vocals at 12 minute lengths) as if they are not the ones who will be forcing themselves to like this are insufferable
