Ethel Cain - 'Perverts'

This does not impact like a mellow tranquilizer in quite the same way "Preacher's Daughter" did.

"Perverts" hits different and I now realize producer Matthew Tomasi (who is absent from this album) may have been the sauce behind Ethel's previous sound.

I have the "Preacher's Daughter" vinyl on pre-order but I won't be getting this album as it is an aural representation of writers block and lacks any discernible level of creative inspiration.

the only songs he produced on preachers daughter were the instrumentals… u sound crazy

This is literally a slowed down recording of a vacuum cleaner, please.

I'll give this a first listen later tonight in the heart of my shift! i'm gonna wait til it's perfectly quiet in the lobby :tornado:

perverts - a waste of space. next.
punisher - great
housofpsychoticwomn - meh. ptolemaea extension?/ does little for me.
vacillator - noice
onanist - best so far
pulldrone - super eerie. exactly the sort of thing i was expecting... but it does kinda of sound like the neighbours mowing the lawn or something a bit too much :suburban:
etienne - tumblr_inline_njz3ygRFig1s56093.gif
thatorchia - okay.-tiffany-pollard.png
amber waves - its pretty. the most accessible sounding song. looking forward to the sped up mix :katie2:

I'm sorry but I don't trust any Ethel Cain "fans" who do not give off the vibe they're into more experimental/drone/ambient music :ahh: it's funny seeing people forcing themselves to like this or any PD track that's not American Teenager

who gives off the right vibe? how can we tell? :gaycat3:

oh wow I feel like I'm listening to a Residents album slowed down or a Throbbing Gristle album… I see u Ethel!

You all expected songs like American Teenager, as if it's not the worst song on Preacher's Daughter :gaycat5:

I'm a sucker for eerie, hair-raising type of my music so I'm so excited to listen to this tonight :jonny5:

(I need songs like Ptolemaea and Inbred)

plsss you know exactly the archetype of gay I'm referencing :dies: the one who enjoys Lana, Lorde, Charli. idk why but Ethel got associated with Lana and similarly adjacent artists so there's an overlap within the "fanbases"

I'm on track 3 and i'm f*cking with this heavy so far :jonny5: I feel uneasy, paranoid, disconcerted… but overall just ALIVE with this sinister music

okay Vacillator coming through with the random pure beauty!

You're not gonna get it if you are not into Ambient/Drone music. It's not meant to be fun, open your mind.

I am. When I said it made me uncomfortable I meant it as the sounds were very haunting, dark, sober… not uncomfortable in the way I wasn't enjoying it. I truly did!

also some people here seem like they can dictate who can like what just judging by their own personal taste nnn im sorry this aint for you but dont try to take it away from anyone

I like the haunting, eerie vibe of some of the songs, but overall it's not really for me. Or atleast not something i would actively listen to, maybe in the background.

Having "Amber Waves" as the album closer is actually cruel, because it's beautiful and i wished the whole album would be like this. But i also appreciate when artists experiment with their sound and go against what people expect. It's just personally didn't really work for me here.

Okay I listen to this after midnight with lights off and I loved it but I was absolutely terrified, I drifted off during Pulldrone and woke up before it finished and I felt so uneasy lol

Now this is alternative taken to whole other level:rip: I'm a big fan of her lyrics and melodies, so this did little for me, but I appreciate the vision.

i do find this whole 'let's cut the excess meat off my fan base' mentality kind of cringe coming from her too..

I'm not sure she ever implied that that is what she wants, I think its mostly the fans who push forward this alienation narrative. I think she just wanted to get off the contract with Dr Luke's label and experiment with her ambient side project. It could even be read as an f you toward the label, not the fans (if it's meant to be an f you at all, which it probably isn't)
