Ethel Cain - 'Perverts'

I'm tired of repetitiveness of the Pulldrone's outro. girl. I don't have these 10 minutes in me to sit and listen to the same sounds looped huh?

This is literally a slowed down recording of a vacuum cleaner, please.

so chiilling and atmospheric cover def matches the album

on first listen now

omg I thought the 'pink noise' descriptions were just a funny comparison :deadbanana:

smoking a pipe before listening to this was a mistake this whole ******* album scary :rip:

I just know I'm gonna be irritated when I hear this album. That word specifically feels very accurate by what I'm hearing from yall but we'll see :bam:

ok I listened to it

i mean let's face it the album is boring. like extremely boring. not in a 'in 10 years this'll be seen as a masterpiece' kind of way either :rip:for me listening to ethel music generally i usually like her vocals on tracks, they're the main attraction. then her melodies. this album has a severe lack of vocals and melodies so ofc im not gonna love it

i do find this whole 'let's cut the excess meat off my fan base' mentality kind of cringe coming from her too..

im not mad at the album existing, im more hyped for the b-sides anyways and her unreleased stuff still slaps which im discovering more of.

there are a couple of nice fleeting moments on the album, overall i cant rly see anyone coming back to many tracks of this album, genuine fan or not.

sorry but this is easily one of the worst projects ive ever heard in my life

not sure if im missing something but she rly let her own pretentious behavior get in the way of making a really strong project that could solidify her in the industry. im all for cool artistic statements and/or projects, but this whole thing purposefully omits so many of her best qualities as an artist and its honestly a baffling choice.

i've only heard the title track (and opener) besides Punish and I'm already sold lmao I love me a good ambient album and this was great so far. at times i felt uncomfortable and the outro changed the mood. and if at +11 min length it made me feel something without boring me or making me stop paying attention, that means it's GOOD. can't wait to listen to the whole project tomorrow.

I guess I'm one of the annoying TikTok fans cause I couldn't really get into it.

I do like Punish and Amber Waves however.

You're not gonna get it if you are not into Ambient/Drone music. It's not meant to be fun, open your mind.

Well that was something. The third last track was oddly emotional? I won't ever be listening in full again but I'm glad I listened at least once. Nothing really grabbed me to go back either. Oh well.

is this not a midnight release???

edit: nvm

Vacillator was cute. although i kept wishing i was listening to Crying During Sex instead.

and just seeing the title of Onanist made me cackle, if you speak Japanese you'd know

:suburban:

Onanist is that song for me, it is a HAUNT in the best way possible

It didn't fill the void. I need something to match the counterparts of Preacher's Daughter.

This does not impact like a mellow tranquilizer in quite the same way "Preacher's Daughter" did.

"Perverts" hits different and I now realize producer Matthew Tomasi (who is absent from this album) may have been the sauce behind Ethel's previous sound.

I have the "Preacher's Daughter" vinyl on pre-order but I won't be getting this album as it is an aural representation of writers block and lacks any discernible level of creative inspiration.

I adore her writing, so this is very much not for me, but Vacillator and Amber Waves were nice. I'll continue waiting for the b-sides ig.

Grouper teas. But if she was gonna do something like this, she still could have added more vocals like this iconic album
