Excluding your first point cause I don't see how that's relevant here, so what if it sounds like a 2015 dance track? That was like a decade ago, maybe she felt nostalgic for that period and wanted to do something that evoked a similar feel to it herself. The song is serviceable enough. 
 

Yeah it does not have the 'magic' of her earlier work, that was a long time ago however. She has hd her time in the limelight and served well, all things come to an end eventually. You can enjoy the stuff she puts put currently or you can ignore it. 
 

But I find the constant circle jerk around this so unnecessary and embarrassing.

Sweetheart, the only frustration I see is from girls of other fanbases. The Katycats have moved on from having these exceptions. We know what our girl gives, and at least I am fine with it.

Maybe because Teenage Dream is the greatest pop album of the last decades?! It's almost impossibile to top yourself when you've already done the best. 

This is not even about outdoing her previous work. She released several good / quality songs this decade only (2020 - present) so she is still capable of that:

I can think of at least ten pop records more influential and better than Teenage Dream so let's cut this nonsense. Katy released a radio-friendly album produced by the top producers at the time.  Dr.Luke, Max Martin and Bonnie McKee also gave Britney and Kesha top 10 hits around the same time telling you everything you need to know regarding Katy's artistry. Had she been behind her success we wouldn't be having the conversation we're having right now.

This song tries to replicate a formula that doesn't work in today's music landscape let alone offer anything different other than what we already discussed and the fact that Katy keeps releasing the same song over and over and over again expecting different results gives you an idea of the limited scope of her talent of skills as an artist.

Katy has a great voice for house, melodic house and progressive house music. If she wanted to make a bop dance record, she should work with producers that specialize in that music over Dr Luke.

When you put this song on repeat it's really hard to tell when it ends and when it's starting again. I think this was intentional and makes sense with the Lifetimes tile.
