Isn't this obvious? She had the biggest album of the decade, and one of the biggest in history in 2011. So the hype was there for the follow up. 

she was the only female popstar releasing quality music. 

She catered to teens, twenty-somethings, adult and mature people, older people and both heterosexual as well as homosexual. Black, white, Chinese or Hispanic. She had little-to-no haters and was universally well-liked. 

 

And as already pointed out she had the biggest album of the 21st century so even a fraction of those who loved 21 would've given her a big #1. 

21 was one of the biggest eras ever, so the follow-up was anticipated.

Her comeback was highly anticipated, especially considering the "21" album + the hit "Skyfall"; everyone was eagerly awaiting her return.

She had that universal appeal

Cuz she knows her fanbase

She had the oldheads buying CDs and the youngans streaming/buying digital copies

21 was the biggest era of the century. First few week sales often reflect the success of the prior era. So yeah the followup to 21 was bound to smash hard out the gate, especially with Hello being a huge hit

Her hype was insane. Everyone was so excited.

She was the queen

She was coming off the biggest album of the century, the hype was right there and then she had the perfect lead for the era with Hello.

21 is a classic, that's why. People wanted more.

 

Too bad 25 and 30 both kinda sucked.

Pretty much this. 25 had so much hype off 21 and sold like gangbusters. But it faded her star power a lot since it wasn't as good and then she took forever to release again.

The whole GP was her fanbase back then

21 was the biggest album of the digital era, there was so much hype going into 25.

Purely because of the hype from 21's massive success.

30 was kinda a let down, tho.

I would also say that Hello was absolutely epic as the lead single. The song is outstanding. The video is epic too. Those close ups at the beginning... stunning.
