MPGs with reverse flopping experiences?

Featured Replies

Which MPGs had projects/songs etc that seemed doomed and floppery from the start and yet they were able to turn the tides around and end up smashing?

  • Obviously, Flowers. Most people expected it to underperform or flop, but it ended up being a monster smash hit (which is arguably the biggest female hit of this century so far). It has topped year-end

    It's literally still dead

Shallow (only in the US)

Every Dua Lipa hit(again only in the US)

Obviously, Flowers. Most people expected it to underperform or flop, but it ended up being a monster smash hit (which is arguably the biggest female hit of this century so far). It has topped year-end charts/or came second in pretty much every country (more than any other hit song). It is still charting in the Spotify 50 more than a year after its release.

Te Felicito by Shakira was MIA on the charts until the MV came out and the press started to gossip about her break up with Piqué.

Dangerous Woman by Ariana seemed like an underperformance era after the results with DW and Into You but then Side To Side kind of saved the era to became meh.

Beyoncé is the queen of this.

B’Day was considered an underperformance after Deja Vu didn’t end up as big as her past singles. Then Ring the Alarm failed to go top 10. Irreplaceable ended up being a massive hit.

Then comes 4, Beyoncé was even being clowned on Atrl for having no hits. The album ended up being huge, and it outlasted albums from that era.

Pink Friday 2. The era started messy & y'all swore she was going to freefall after the first week :coffee:

Lover going from underperformance to one of the biggest albums of the last 10 years is wild.

Both Rihanna and Ariana did this with Rated R and Dangerous Woman respectively.

Special era.. idk if Rumors was ever intended as a single for the album anyway but it did underperform, then About Damn Time saved it

Scarlet was saved by PTTR after Attention really bombed, Agora Hills is also great and deserved to smash

Arguably Smile era was a turn around with the resurgence of Harleys In Hawaiis helping it perform better than Witness in the long run

Chromatica era was boosted by Rain On Me with the Ari feature, though Stupid Love wasnt a major bomb

Takin' It Back era pre-album singles made almost no noise and 'Made You Look' happened on release day

P!nk’s I’m Not Dead era is like the textbook example of this. The lead single Stupid Girls underperformed and Who Knew bombed at first. Then U + Ur Hand blew up, saved the era, and made Who Knew a smash as well

Lover by Taylor

Me and YNTCD both getting blocked at #2 by the same song

:deadbanana2:

The Man....well. :rip:

Lover song only peaking at ten and radio I don't think touched it, but it won in the end. 1B+ streams now and does 1.7M daily and is the second best performing song from the album.

And then of course Cruel Summer smashing 4 years later. :WAP:

literally everyone including Gaga stans were sure ASIB was going to bomb hard but she defied expectations as usual :gaygacat4:
