An album with Voices could never be horrible  

If anything it's overrated. Yes, I'll say it, it's her worst album. MDNA is so bad it's not even an album

-The cover/art direction/title/concept makes no sense (yes, I know there were some scrapped concepts that affected things, but you're MF Madonna, like? Reshoot it? Go back to the drawing board?). Candy could've served as a visual theme but they chose that cheap AF background?

-Much of the album is spent chasing an already popular sound (JT/Timbaland/Danja) without much innovation that characterized her previous releases

-Some of the material is straight garbage (i.e. Spanish Lesson, Incredible)

-The best songs (i.e. Miles Away) are of decent quality, but none of them are really amongst her best songs ever (they just look cute sitting next to trash)

-It just doesn't feel like a Madonna album. It feels like a project pulled together by the producers and record execs that she then just slapped her name on.

have more of the vibe of Beat Goes On and Give It 2 Me  (both bops) and  less of Heartbeat / Spanish Lesson filler tracks  and it's decent

It might be a bit overhated on ATRL because so many here act like it’s dreadful when it’s really just mid. It still contains some real highlights (Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You, Miles Away). 
 

MDNA is her real most overhated album. There are a few truly atrocious duds (Turn Up The Radio and B-Day Song are two of her worst songs), but the rest of the album is…fine? A lot of it is even good. 
 

Her worst work is Rebel Heart. The way there is a single solitary good song on that album (Ghosttown).  The sad thing is, many of the demos were good, but ultimately the final album was trash. 

There are so many reasons to dislike Hard Candy, but I just can't. It came out at the perfect time for me, and I will always love it.

 

I think it would have a more middling reputation had it not followed Confessions, which was by and large a perfect pop era. Hard Candy was a reaction to current trend, one of the few times Madonna caught the wave as opposed to following her own muse, much like Kylie on Kiss Me Once. And, of course, that sound was already feeling tired by the time the album dropped. The tour was fantastic, though, and it feels like a sister production of the WTGT with most of the theatrics toned down.

 

I remember there being a lot of discussion about the untouched photos that leaked during that era, and people were being particularly nasty about them. Shocked that a woman in her 50s would have ... wrinkles! I remember one user on Madonnalicious writing that they "never wanted to see her like that again."

 

It was a bumpy era overall.

It's a great album actually

All I know is Devil Wouldn't Recognize You is a gem.

Considering she had worse albums before and after I'd say yes. It's an Okay album & I think gets lashed so much because it followed Confessions dddfkad

It is overhated indeed. All the hate it gets should be redirected to Rebel Heart

It's terribly overhated and it's a shame cause I absolutely LOVE this album. To me, there are no skips. 

I genuinely cannot understand how/why people say this is her worst album when MDNA is literally unlistenable

Dance 2Night is my jam though.

 

it's obviously a step down from Confessions, but it's still a great album, and probably the last one I could listen to start to finish and be kinda wowed from it.  I still remember listening to it for the first time in my room with my friend.  It was not a bad, or "lower tier" experience.

 

The album did great WW and I think it was in the Top 10 for the year WW.   I know 4 Minutes was the #2 song WW of 2008.   The tour was amazing for a 50 year old.  Kept the record for 15 years.  Great era, in hindsight.  You gotta understand it was CRAZY seeing Madonna get ANOTHER Top 5 Pop hit at age 50 so effortlessly.

I think it’s the production of the album that is simply more Timberland, Timbaland and Pharrell than Madonna

 

I mean she found her feet on the album and she made it her own but just not enough

You WILL REPENT the Incredible hate. It's a BOP when you're in LOVE. Dance 2Night is HORRIBLE. The only real SKIP on the album. Sounds like a DEMO.

This era also produced her best unreleased songs. Across The Sky, Animal, If You Go Away.
