Does 1989 TV feel like an event?

Featured Replies

Don’t jump me Swifties, I’m just asking a question :bird:

From my perspective as a casual listener, nobody’s really talking about 1989 TV, aside from Swifties. All of Taylor’s media attention is on that relationship with that man, it’s like everyone has seem to forgotten she’s re-releasing her biggest album.

I just thought this era would feel more like an event. What do you guys think?

Yeah, her relationship with that man seems to be what people are really interested in right now. But l'm sure the album will do great numbers as usual :cm:

It's a rerecording and Taylor hasn't really done any rollout to build hype except that tracklist thing a month ago

Midnights didn't really "feel" like an event before it came out either since the promo was just TikTok track title reveals. Safe to say it turned out well :gaylorcat2:

I would check back tomorrow when the numbers start flowing and media attention turns to the release.

No, but only because Taylor is choosing to not promote

It could've easily been a big event if she promoted

I think it just comes down to two things: 1) she is not promoting the record, 2) the discussion is split between many things right now (1989 TV, The Eras Tour movie, Cruel Summer, Travis). But I feel like it will change tomorrow very quickly.

That's because there's no album? People will be talking about it when there's an album to be listened to. Do you want people to post stuff like "oh, tomorrow taylor is gonna re-release that album i liked 10 years ago! I can't wait to hear it"

Also, check social media. It's all over tiktok

not at all which is odd cause i thought this one would

Red felt more like an event to casuals/non fans/OTH

fingers crossed for Rep

Red only felt like an event AFTER it was released. You guys have a selective memory problem

I mean it’s not uncommon for people to be excited for an album from an artist they like, even if it is a re-release :toofunny3:

I don’t get Taylor content on my TikTok though, so you’re probably right and I’m just not seeing it.

It's a re-release of an almost 10 year old album. The only TV that felt like an event was 'RED (TV)' and that was because she had nothing else to promote back then. Now she has 'Midnights', the tour and the film, all of which seem to take precedence over '1989 (TV)' for her.

It's a re-recording. What do you expect? It's going to sell more than a new album by a MPG with minimal promo. :clap3:

Red will end up as the biggest re recording event.

1989 will be second tho.

1989 TV's already sold more in pre-orders (pure) than Red TV did in SPS in its first 3 weeks out

The people acting like Red TV was an event are sending me. That was a literal four month drought from the announcement until its release date :dies:

The same thing people was saying before Midnights’ release :toofunny2:

Now it turns out to be one of her best album rollout ever :clap3:

Exactly.  We were given nothing up until the release date other than one or two tik toks.  Then she did two late night interviews and one TV performance and all of a sudden we remember it as if she did a bunch of promo.
