the OTHs in there, the way they even used the nashville mansion she bought after getting famous

For the wrong reasons? The comments are dragging her :rip:

It’s always fascinating to watch people with low iq supporting each other to try and convince themselves that they did something... :toofunny2:

and that ill infested site of all places :toofunny2:

The way she simultaneously sells the "we were working class living by on a farm" AND "my parents dropped everything and moved to Nashville to support my career" narratives at the same time :jonny: a true marketing genius

The top comment comparing her parents to billionaires because they had a $500k house :rip:

Quote

Taylor Swift's background:

  • father: former stockbroker for Merrill Lynch,

  • mother: former mutual fund marketing executive.

Taylor Swift grew up on a farm. It wasn’t a subsistence farm in the rough part of Kentucky but a Christmas-tree farm in Pennsylvania. “Her mother worked in finance,” a New Yorker story says, “and her father, a descendant of three generations of bank presidents, is a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch. (He bought the tree farm from a client.)” In Swift’s hometown, she told the magazine’s Lizzie Widdicombe, “it mattered what kind of designer handbag you brought to school.”

... When Swift was 14, her father relocated to Merrill Lynch’s Nashville office as a way to help dear Taylor break into country music. As a sophomore in high school, she got a convertible Lexus. Around the same time, her dad bought a piece of Big Machine, the label to which Swift signed.

Swift is the privileged daughter of wealthy plutocrats.

Damn, some comments really are ripping into her :toofunny3:

but most comments aren't even dragging her, just talking about overall stuff

does that mean she is something similar to a nepotism baby? :eli:

(without the famous in rich/famous parents combination ofc)

If her dad really bought part of the company that gave her her job, that's quite literally the criteria for nepotism baby I fear. :bird:

This is not a mansion.

Taylor's current house in Rhode Island, which she bought with her own money, is a mansion.

Taylor's dad bought a tiny 3% stake at the company after they signed her and she has literally the first signed artist.  Taylor made Scott Borchetta and Big Machine Records famous.  :oh:

Small minds cannot comprehend that many artists write in first person of a character or image in a song, and its not always biographical commentary on one's life.

Um, you realize how if a song is written in the first person, it can be taken as biographical. Also, she has always tried to sell a "regular" middle class upbringing without mentioning that her dad literally co-owned the label she was signed to and from what I hear she was their first act, so it was essentially a vanity label created for her.

The picture in the OP is not a mansion, but it’s also not very far off it when you’re comparing it to middle class homes in the USA.. :deadbanana2:

I don’t think that Taylor’s lyrics should be taken by everyone as biographical information, but to make it clear to all the stans arguing otherwise, Taylor was not in an average middle class family, I mean her parents moved to Nashville from Pennsylvania specifically for Taylor to pursue her music career, I don’t know many middle class families who would have the resources or dedication to do that for their child. Taylor is still very successful in her own merit, but to spin her story as if she did not have an advantage because of her family’s financial background, would be disrespectful and discrediting artists who did not have that leverage, eg. Rihanna.

Swifties shouldn’t take shame in this, majority of MPGs came from wealthy backgrounds anyways.

The speaker in literature is not always the author. This is elementary my dear.

That is implying Taylor's sexy baby songs are literary which.... good for you.

Not people splitting hairs saying her childhood home isn’t technically a mansion and totally missing the point.

The Hunger Games is written in first person, but people believe it is Susan Collins’ autobiography?

First person =/= the voice of the author.

The world is unfair. Talent and intelligence are highly correlated with success and are mostly genetic. Smart, rich, talented people tend to marry each other because they go to the same private schools, colleges, country clubs, and workplaces. Smart, rich, talented people tend to produce smart, rich, talented children who are given all the privilege and then excel at it.

Yes, Taylor was given immense advantages at the start of her career that allowed her to be a "self-made" multi-millionaire when she was only 17 years old. Without the parents she had, she would've had to wait another 10 years after slogging away in shithole studios behind Carl's Jr, writing workshops and sucking producer D in a parking lot to get a record deal like Katy Perry. But anyone can see how smart she is and how talented she is and she would've made it anyway, just like Katy. When there's a will and a pretty face, there's a way.

Honey Taylor was the first artist sign with BMR, the office didn’t have furniture neither employees buying 3% was like nothing

I agree at some parts she has advantages, like moving to Nashville without hesitation, and then getting a nice car

The thing that bothered me the most is that her dad bought stakes of Big Machine. I mean, it's not a big company when they signed her. She is the first artist, right?

It is more like supporting her kid's career. The rest is still up to public
