This is tough since I really love both albums so much and I feel both have such strong replay value & were, in my opinion, the perfect album that should have been released by each of them at their specific points in their respective careers.

 

I would probably give a slight edge to Renaissance because its a little more innovative. & this is coming from a hardcore LM and I'm not a huge Beyonce fan in general.

Both are not great efforts. I mean how can you listen to either without skipping tracks. I can't even vote so I decided not to.

Does Chromatica have daring songs like Alien Superstar, im That Girl ir Thique on it? No.

 

Does it have vocal moments on it like Plastic Off The Sofa or Virgos Groove on it?

 

Does it have variety like Renaissance? No

 

Does it have continuity like Renaissance? No.

 

Renaissance just completely eclipses Chromatica in all aspects: Intention, vocals, production, quality. U pick it.

Renaissance is objectively superior as a dance album because it’s not just playing to convention - it deconstructs convention And experiments with an unbelievable variety/range of what dance music can do for your soul. I do think chromatica is a great Gaga project with some catchy hits (even SL has grown on me) but I don’t think it is as successful in execution

Music is also a science. Notes, vocals, counts etc… are all quantified. Some combinations just suck and remind you of a bad song from the past or are very unpleasant to hear. That’s what chromatica did. Of course there will be people that will like that nonsense just like there are people that are into scat

Well, it´s true that you can quantify notes & vocal abilities. But the arrangement of those combinations is the art and you cannot rate it.

 

You can say that singer x hit note z better than singer y.

But you cannot say that album x is objectively better than album y, since everybody has a differnt taste and there is no right way to arrange combinations because we never truely know what the artist wanted to express with the arrangement.

I understand what you’re saying but I don’t agree that evaluation of art is always subjective. For example, if someone compares a doodle of a dog by me a casual sketcher and a sketch by a famous artist of the same thing, a person can objectively evaluate that the famous artist’s sketch is just better in quality and execution of the same subject.

I dont think personal preference can outweigh better vocals and a better production.
i prefer my mom’s recipes but that doesn’t mean they are better than what the chef is cooking at the restaurant nearby. 

 I liked Chromatica way better, only 3 songs on Beyonce new album i like. 

As a Gaga stan, Renaissance is what I wanted Chromatica to be. Renaissance succeeds where Chromatica failed. I still think Chromatica is ok, but it was definitely a letdown, especially considering how generic and dated it sounded at release.

Any Beyoncé album > Chromatica, Renaissance included. 

 

Like, it's really not close at all. Chrom is just not good and it's Gaga's worst effort so far meanwhile Ren is one of if not the best album Bey has done.

 

They are in completely different leagues. 

I guess we have an answer now.

Chromatica is soulless dance music that you lose consciousness to while the GHB hits at a twink orgy. Sure, you wake up with loads inside of you, so you have positive memories of the experience, but you'll never remember Free Woman or Fun Tonight when the high wears off. And you'll never get your soul back, either.

Chromatica works better as an album for me, but I love some Renaissance songs. Pure/Honey and Move are my favourites.

I think the primary difference between Chromatica and Renaissance is that Chromatica seems like it was made for Gaga's gay fans, whereas Renaissance seems like a tribute to the gay community.  Chromatica is interesting for Gaga because it's her cleanest record and there's some real depth in regard to the subject matter, but there's a lack of sonic experimentation and risk-taking that you'd normally expect from a Gaga album. It's Gaga music without the idiosyncrasies that make Gaga, Gaga. It's somehow very personal, but also very sterilized. 

 

In contrast, what Beyonce's given us is this new exploration into house music and ballroom culture that I don't think we really expected from her. Sometimes it's really jarring to hear Bey sound like she's MC'ing a ball or like she's on the Drag Race judging panel, but the album is excellently produced and sonically expansive to the point where you feel truly immersed in something. Thematically it's a much shallower album, but as a listening experience it feels much deeper. Personally, my vote goes to Bey.
