The rupaul comparisons dont sit right with me because drag race and the ( Drag scene ) has white washed and exploited /appropriated The Ballroom Scene/Black Queer people which this album is a homage to . SO Whoever is comparing the Album to the former has no knowledge of Music / Culture or any valid opinion to state . Its giving lackluster....

Honestly, neither

Both albums are so overhyped because of their huge fanbases, but they're derivative, generic, bland, forgettable, and I can't even hate them, it's just... meh

 

Bey's looks/aesthetics are more elevated though, and she has the better production of the two, imo

Chromatica is catchier, Renaissance is more ambitious.

 

Love both but they have better albums, which starts with the letter B.

Chromatica is 3 minute oontz oontz jingles with a typical verse chorus structure. Renaissance went for something more free flowing and creative, paying homage to countless Black music genres over decades. Chromatica is the most watered down, defanged house homage I've ever heard, Renaissance is layered and rich, every song constantly seguing to new sections while eschewing traditional pop song structure, constantly serving bass and attitude. Of course the white twinks of ATRL cannot wrap their heads around something that ambitious and mind expanding and call it noise. Their references to ball culture only go as far back as something as corporate and toothless as Drag Race.

It's all about songs. SONGS. Music. Melody. Concept. Lyrics. Tension. Release. Resolution. Catharsis. SONGS.

 

Chromatica, as flawed as it may be, has songs.

 

Renaissance has a couple of songs, and then a whole lot of noise. Yes it's a tribute, it's free-flowing, free-form, experimental. Tell me about it. I don't want to listen to it again, sorry. Good music is music you want to listen to. Period. That's the core definition of it. Do you want to hear it? It's good. That goes for any genre or style ever.

Songs with non traditional structure are still songs, they might take a couple more listens because they don't scream HEY! HERE'S THE HOOK at you though. Give it a shot, it's very rewarding.

They're both on the same level to me, but Renaissance sound is more... timeless, I think? Chromatica has songs that seem straight out of 2010. When I first heard Stupid Love I felt flashbacks of my first years of college when Born This Way came out.

Chromatica is clearly the better album. 

I’m gonna start off by saying Renaissance has immaculate production, the songs flow seamlessly into each other, and it sounds like one big DJ set. Which is great, I love how the producers who worked on it went down this route, and it’s leagues above Chromatica in that sense. But what’s bad about it is that most songs sound the same and you can’t make out which song is which. It all really sounds like one big, structureless song. No distinctive hooks, and above all, the entire record is filled with vapid and shallow lyrics about Beyoncé being ‘that *****’. 
 

For an album that pays homage to her culture, Renaissance really ends up sounding soulless to me. 
 

Chromatica on the other hand, while they (sadly) didn’t take any risks with its production, has way stronger melodies and catchy hooks. Gaga poured her heart and soul into her lyrics and you can tell that it’s deeply personal, which translated into a way more authentic result compared to Renaissance’s constant sing-talking and ‘bad *****’ bragging. 
 

As some member pointed out above, why give props to Bey’s structureless ‘bops’ if I can’t tell which song is which? Experimenting doesn’t always result in great songs, nor is it a bad thing to follow the structure of a regular pop song, if done right.

I think Chromatica has more hooks and more depth to the lyrics, but the production and execution on Renaissance is much better. They're hard to compare.

Monsters once again falling for that racist fanbase making threads to set Gaga against other popstars. 

 

Anyway, both solid, neither amazing, but Renaissance's "I'm queen, #1 in the game" lyrics are kinda tired and the samples don't do anything new, they feel kinda regurgitated, so I prefer Chromatica.

If you think this sounds like one structureless song, you really didn't listen and/or you don't know music. She's literally switching genres every song, sometimes even in the same song  Just because the transitions are immaculate and sometimes you don't notice another song started doesn't mean it sounds like "one big song"

Renaissance, and it's not even close. Chromatica has its moments, but Renaissance is on a different level.
