Gaga has not had a solo Top 10 hit in a forever. I'm pretty sure that's a major downfall. Madonna was still getting #1in her 50s

Gaga had a solo top 5 hit two years ago, the last time she released a studio album. You tried though :rip:

in a long time I think I've never seen such a horrible sound mixing to this performance which is sad because future is my fave song from this era. also this album is my favorite from her 10's era

btw I don't think anyone was expecting her to smash in her 60's with a completely different shape to the music compared the the 2019 landscape (even though in she had contemporary mixes for crave, future, Medellin and faz gostoso), lack of promo, lack of direction how to market her, image,... it's not that difficult to see the whole reshape they've done to her catalog in 20's.

atp I just want a GH stadium world tour. it will be a huge blockbuster.

There just aren’t any catchy songs on the album. The Eurovision performance and her being sixty also didn’t help.

The album is quite solid and IMO the best album of the 10s.

BUT, the lack of quality control surrounding it is awful, the venues couldn't acommodate her stage, the disastrous Eurovision performance and the overall bitchiness she gave during her interviews (Graham Norton) all ruined her image even more :skull:

She’s at a stage of her career where she can just do anything she wants. It was praised by critics but it was also very much an experimental non-mainstream album that fed her personal interests and wasn’t trying to appeal to everyone.  As a long time Madonna fan I appreciated the album but I hardly ever use it because the specific music on it is not to my taste. But is clear she had a vision and executed it the way she wanted. I think critics recognized that she was creating art and not trendchasing, so it’s an artistic success even if it wasn’t a smash commercially. But also it opened at number one so it added to her stats.

no one was expecting her to smash at 60, but those horrid autotune vocals that she's been using for the past decade will be the death of her

It's not Gaga's career that fell off after that incident, sweety.

It's Madonna's.

Her last Grammy being in 2008 :toofunny2: her last solo hit 2009… it’s all making sense…

OT:

horrid album Medellin was cringe. #1 -#99 -OUT iconic tho

Nothing went wrong. Madame X is Madge’s best album since Confessions. It felt bold, innovative and fun and had everything that MDNA and Repel Charts lacked.

It was just bad. One or two of the songs were tolerable but her vocals were incredibly  over processed. The music videos didn’t help at all nor did the performances we got.

It's definitely a return to form after 2 atrocious albums (+Hard Candy and the production that aged like milk), too much processed vocals and insisting on Medellin as a lead when faz gostoso was right there.

See, that actually seems to be the weak part of the album. I still don't get who Madame X is or what that has to do with a collection of political pop songs :rip:

@GlamSlam @Oktober Knight @Lover and other Madonna fans, please comment, because that's the only part of the album that doesn't work for me.

I choose not to comment on that album.

Stupid and unnecessary auto tune :rip:

Plus songs like Medellín, ***** I'm Loca, Soltera, etc.

Madomame X would've be better without those stupid tracks.

The music. The concept was nice but the music was horrible, all those terrible features, awful man, just awful.

Why bring up Gaga, you asked Madame X but the Monsters can't help but bring her up then cry obsessed when people respond. Stick to the subject.

As for Madame X, it was a return to form in a way we had begun to see with Rebel Heart, where she really tried to craft a proper era. While the RH leaks left the whole thing feeling disjointed as a result of the double album rejection, Madame X suffered no leaks and she was able to execute her vision. While on the surface it should work, I feel there's still an element of vying for commercial success while also wanting to experiment beyond the realms of pop music.

Personally, the overuse of vocal effects here were too much and didn't work the way they did prior in Music and American Life. The choice of Eurovision being used to perform that mix of LAP and Future which completely drained the fun out of the event. I appreciate what she was trying to do and the message she said but it felt like a huge wasted choice. I don't expect Madonna to be top ten but for this record, it has some shining moments but a lot of bad ones though.

MX is a combination of different persona's with different roles, so I don't think we were meant to pinpoint who or what she was, tbh. :rip: I think the music and melodies were apparent in a lot of those songs, whereas they were definitely missing in others. The first single gave the wrong impression of the album's sound, and that turned people off. Even the fans were indifferent about Medellin, but forced themselves to try and enjoy it because we'd waited so long for new material.lol, I was guilty of it myself in the beginning. It's just one of those songs that plods along without actually going anywhere, and the overuse of Maluma on it didn't help.

ISIDF wouldn't performed better as the first single, but the music was worlds apart from what she was marketing MX as. I get that she likes to stir up conversations with politics, but looking back, Madonna's political work has never really performed that well in comparisons to her others anyway. (See American Life, Rebel Heart). The MX track list alone screams politics to the average listener (Killers Who Are Partying, God Control, Future, Extreme Occident) , and I don't think they were here for it. With everything going on in the world in 2019, I think people just wanted another feel-good album like COADF. Hopefully, they'll be echoes of that on the next one.

Great ideas; poor execution. I don't really know what she was trying to say with the era, and the production is simply not good. You could easily fix up quite a few of those songs, though.

I've been a Madonna stan since the early 1990s, and it was painful to sit through the Madame X era and watch it happen. But I have faith something will snap back into place soon.

Aside from Gaga debuting being the worst thing to happen to Madge,

Aside from who debutng?

Bad/mediocre music mostly to her prioritizing a song's political message over its actual sound.
