This. Madame X was good, but I don't think the GP was ready for a politically charged, experimental album from Madonna at that point in her life. I've never said this before, but I actually loathe "Medellin" and thought it was the wrong choice for the first single from the very start. That, along with her Eurovision debacle, her image and snippy appearances on talks shows like Graham Norton didn't help, and like you say, It's becoming more obvious that someone with very good connections is trying to sabotage everything she does. All we see reported is negativity,and all the positive stuff like donating for charities and building schools are completely ignored, while insignificant articles on her age, face, hands, boytoys are endless. it's been happening for a decade. The fact that there was a stream of negative articles trashing Madonna for writing and directing her biopic, (along with nasty little speculations on why Diablo Cody moved on) proves the knives are already being sharpened before she even starts shooting, and that says it all.

Totally agreed re: Medellin. It doesn't sound like anything else on the album, nor does it give a proper reveal into the rest of the album's lyrical theme. It's an odd song that honestly shouldn't even be on the album.

 

If I were here, I'd probably have nixed Medellin / ***** I'm Loca altogether, started the album with Dark Ballet, and then put Ciao Bella after IDSIF.

Medellin was a very bad choice as lead single and she sounded auto tuned to a point nobody wanted to hear the rest of the Album. 

She was 60, how would she be able to be commercially successful at that age with her new, original music?

 

Plus those vocal efffects are a choice

 

Crave her best 2010s single tho

 

Aside from Gaga debuting being the worst thing to happen to Madge, it was Horrid album by a past it artist. Failed acting career,  and music career that ended a decade ago She won’t be able to sell anything to the GP now, even her tour for this pulled 50m  so the album was never gonna be a success lol

I agree, I've never liked it.  I don't know what possessed her to omit Ciao Bella from the standard edition, because it's a lot better than other songs that made it. God Control would not have been a good single (too political), it has a great message of course, but she could've had a huge hit on her hands if it had been a carefree dance bop. I mean, I don't know about anybody else, but my feet start tapping whenever I listen to it, but it feels wrong, and I have to remind myself what it's about.

Lol that's why IDSIF seems to have been the most obvious single choice. Yes, it sounded a little dated compared to what's on the radio, but let's be real...if that's what she had led the album with, fans would have been gagging over it and saying she was back. It's classic Madonna. 

 

Ciao Bella is the best song from the whole era. It's otherworldly. It's criminal that it's not even on streaming services.

Lol Gaga failed at pop music. She only did well playing herself in a movie. 

 

Stream stupid love and everything will suddenly make sense

If Crazy was the lead single with Faz Gostoso as the second single, everything would have went much better

It's odd but she's wierd I think the Rebel Heart leaks made her not care. Rebel Heart was the best song on that Album outside of the brilliant "Ghostown" 

 

And she paid it dust lol

A decade ago (more like 11 years ago) is also when Gaga got her last solo #1 too

Gaga has not had a solo Top 10 hit in a forever. I'm pretty sure that's a major downfall. Madonna was still getting #1in her 50s

See, that actually seems to be the weak part of the album. I still don't get who Madame X is or what that has to do with a collection of political pop songs 

 

@GlamSlam @Oktober Knight @Lover and other Madonna fans, please comment, because that's the only part of the album that doesn't work for me.
