Gaga selling her album for 99 cents on its first week and still not being able to meet Taylor’s and OIDIA first week sales

How much did Rated R sell when it was discounted to 99 cents in its first week?

Quickly.

I like Mariah but literally no one knows TGIFY outside her fandom.

this is a stupid thing to say. just because you don't know anyone who knows it doesn't mean that people don't know it or have heard it when it came out. It did decently on radio and MTV so people definitely have heard it.

https://perezhilton.com/britney-spears-tickets-have-been-selling-for-half-price-on-groupon/

Quote

Now, fans have been getting EVEN MORE opportunities for half-price tickets, because Groupon has been selling 50% off tickets for more than half of the shows on Brit’s Femme Fatale tour!

Shockingly enough, not ALL the tickets sold…even at half-off!!!!

Discounts dont work for everyone. Rated R still bombed first week with the original 99c discount, also the above.

OT:

Beys tidal

Any taylor first week single release

The song peaked at number 28 on pop radio and barely made the top ten on rhythmic radio, definitely not well enough for it to have been a number one.

"At the time of the article, “Loverboy” was being discounted to 49 cents and many stores were giving the song away for free. That song ended up hitting No. 2, despite tanking on radio. The song’s lack of success was one of the reasons for Mariah’s well-documented breakdown in 2001."

"In mid-1997, Mariah released the song “Honey,” which was not doing so well on the radio, at least not as well as expected. Call out research on the song was only average. However, when Sony discounted the song to 49 cents, the song immediately hit No. 1. Sony and Billboard were trying to give an illusion that Mariah was still a chart-topper, and it worked to a certain extent. In the spring of 1998, Mariah released another “No. 1” song, “My All,” which would have only been a top 10 hit had it not been discounted for 49 cents. The same could be said for future Mariah Carey “No. 1” songs such as “Heartbreaker” and “Thank God I Found You.”

omg

I don't think anyone could ever go as low as selling an album for 99 cents during first week.

Katy’s team using Payola, remixes and spamming to make LFN number one and tie MJ’s record

Lady gaga's 99 cent album sale..

BTS in General

Taylor releasing folklore with 9 different covers (it was iconic tho tbh)

You´re the only one in this thread, but there were many other users who always came up with this argument (even though it´s false).

Edit: Not saying that I predicted it, but...

When artists reduce the number of tickets on sale at the last minute in order to make every show look like a sell out; essentially everyone does it, but nobody gets dragged for it.

I love her , but Gaga's BTW 99 cents deal was the definition of shameless. Dua Lipa's TTH residency also comes to mind.

Isn't this kinda the basic trajectory for every pop single being released? what's so bad about that?

That's more the touring companies/promoters than the artists' themselves. It all for PR.

Chromatica.
Little Mix promised early access to tickets for people who pre-order Confetti through their official store in the middle of the pandemic and everyone knew it won't happen.

I mean my own faves had their tasteless promo too every now and then, but she's on her own level of tackiness :coffee2:

Nicki with Queen, Gaga with Chromatica (but looks like the tour is happenning after all), I believe pretty much anyone who wanted to tour in 2020

And Britney got her Clinton era sales record demolished by Taylor during the streaming era anyway. Gaga was ahead of her time with the Amazon sales deal seeing as nowadays you don't even have to pay anything to be counted as a "sale"

Actually Taylor didn't beat Britney's first week sales record, only Adele did that, but go off sis
