Lady Gaga & Doechii - "Runway" (from 'The Devil Wears Prada 2')
Gaga's voice on the opening line was so good, but they went 'that's all you're getting from her'

The Free Woman demo is an example of wasted potential with the 90's house influences, background vocals and the higher key without the raspiness. That would have made a smash lead single after ASIB when she had the world in her hands. Yet she still found a way to ruin it by releasing SL, which was leaked online and being played in clubs months before its release with that atrocious music video. It was a time she could get away with with taking more risks and being more daring, yet still wanted to play it as safe as possible. I'm the mastering stages of Chromatica and Mayhem, they are made to be watered down without hearing the details in the production that would make more impact. I hope this isn't going to happen for her future albums, but something tells me she wants to be 'softer' now. Her Jazz albums and side projects are the only way we can hear the full power of her voice, and have better production to showcase it. Her studio albums are cursed

It aged badly because it was a watered down compressed quick single. With Ariana on it, it should have been a dance banger like her catalogue, and Gaga's early work. She just doesn't want to do anything daring these days, and plays it safe. Abracadabra will be similar, it will battle its way to 1B streams but end up forgotten in a couple of years

Just compression done right, without crushing her vocals flat and sucking the dynamics out the production, like most of Mayhem and Chromatica, even a lot of Born This Way. She just can't seem to make dance music like her debut album for some reason. Yeah Abracadabra has been stable, but still falling below her early dance classics. So it's for the best she goes the Adele-esque ballad route, the GP would eat it up. She is entering her 40's anyway, so being a pop star will bring more challenges. All she needs is her voice on its own now!

Will Gaga ever win AOTY?
If she makes an album full of ballads and mid-tempo songs. That cover she posted of 'Won't You Be My Neighbour?' shows her at her best. When she spends years working on pop albums and processing them with lots of compression, it doesn't show her full potential. She just needs real instruments, and her beautiful, rich voice. She can't make dance music these days without compressing it flat, like most of Mayhem and Chromatica. The dynamics in the production and depth in her voice are crushed flat, very thin and muddy. She needs to work with better producers that will put her vocals at front and centre and make bigger sounds

I want her to make an album similar to the cover of 'Won't You Be My Neighbour?' she posted. Just beautiful, rich, vocals and a piano. Obviously it can have uptempo ballads as well, but the overall approach is softer yet harder with real instruments and vocals. When she spends years working and processing pop albums, the end result isn't her full potential. She needs an album full of ballads to achieve solo success and win album of the year

Saturation happens in an overlay of pitch correction, compression and equalisation. The things that Gaga's voice definitely does not need, yet is used painfully, especially in Mayhem. If you listen to the stems, you will hear her vocals saturated and muffled in songs like perfect celebrity, vanish into you, even die with a smile. Disease is the only one produced to the right standard, the rest were definitely re-mastered differently in the final stages

Grammy voters don't go by the feelings of who they like. It's judged by metrics, the quality of the album, the vocals, production, composition etc. Gaga delivered vocally, but that level of compressed, saturated production was never going to win against its competitors. Gaga needs to stop trying to play it basic and safe like this and Chromatica as well, where the sound doesn't have any dynamics or impact. It ages terribly, and that's why her early dance classics like PF, BR, JD will always be more remembered and her most daily streamed. Songs like ROM and Abracadabra lack the heavy, punchy beats and pop offs that her first album delivers

Gaga described Mayhem in interviews as "soft". But you can't do soft grunge and rock, and make it work. Songs like Perfect Celebrity, Can't Stop the High and Killah need to be much heavier. The problem is, she wanted to make it an overall pop album, and soften it with added compression. Disease got me really excited, because it was so heavy with Evenescene vibes, and I thought that would be the direction of the era. Then the album came, and it was just watered down with all the dynamics sucked out of it. I blame DWAS
