If we're talking about album concepts that went nowhere, I'll always rue the day Kylie decided to disregard her original ideas for her tenth album. She was apparently going to do a jazz-inspired project under the tutelage of Blossom Dearie, and I think she could've made a very solid album if she got the chance if her proto-jazz tracks are anything to go by.

Music's Too Sad Without You is absolutely boring and the lyrics are superficial and basic for the theme. She also has very little chemistry with Jack Savoretti; I think something like Midnight Ride with Orville Peck would've made a much better collab for the mess that was Golden. Some Kind of Bliss is not a terrible song, but it is so freaking repetitive. After the second verse, the chorus line ('Cause every day is all there is in my some kind of bliss') is repeated ten times in a row with little instrumental variation to boot. That paired with the bizarre choice to make it the lead single from Impossible Princess makes me not like it a lot.

There was only one more single from Camila though? Consequences flopped, but it has like 400 million streams which is solid-ish for a song that didn't make the top 40. It was ludicrous for the team to go 10 months without releasing anything after Never Be The Same and when the time came to release something they chose a limp ballad over much more obvious picks (She Loves Control, In The Dark, Into It). Romance was an absolute mess from the get-go, imagine if the album hadn't had My Oh My put on it as a last-minute addition. Shameless helps the album earn decent streams now, but that too flopped back in the day. What an awfully mismanaged era that could've gone much better.

What? TMB went number one because of digital sales; both TMB and 4 Minutes were released digitally the same week and Touch My Body sold almost 70,000 copies more (286,000 to 4 Minutes' 217,000). Whilst TMB did end up selling significantly less than 4 Minutes in the long run, it was because it was a lot more frontloaded. Also, the radio not touching Madge narrative is largely overstated. 4 Minutes peaked within the top 5 of pop radio (higher than TMB) and top ten on overall radio. TMB was a significantly bigger radio hit, but it was because urban radio backed it whereas its pop radio performance was even worse than 4 Minutes' despite the massive success TEOM singles enjoyed at the formant.
