THR broke the scoop, and every other trade is just reporting that original piece, so it's hard to say. I'm inclined to think two things. One, this is just WB "testing the waters" of comic book bros. On the other hand, Todd JUST announced last week that he had handed in the script, so it's really suspicious that you make that announcement and suddenly A WEEK later we're getting major casting news? Nah, I don't think so, this seems like negotiations have probably been going on for a while(and the script has been ready for a while) but they decided to announce it all at once. Besides, WB doesn't really give a **** about controversial casting choices regarding their DC properties, they've done it time and time again, with varying amounts of success.

The first rumors came out end of January from deuxmoi, the negotiations were already happening by that time clearly, 5 months passed, it's obviously happening with both of them, and even without Gaga, no way they would make it without Phoenix.

Yeah it's happening. Joaquin Phoenix may be eccentric but he's not an *******. No way he's going to stab Todd Phillips in the back AFTER he publicly announced the project & completed the script.
