I think she (and her team) focused on picking the right role. The script was a messT, but Patrizia as a role was the perfect follow-up to Ally/ASIB. She needed to pick something that had no singing, would be a stark contrast to her previous performance, give her a lot of meat to chew, and would be in a theoretical awards player. It makes a lot of sense from that perspective, and the film was still absolutely a net good for her acting career. Hopefully she's learned her lesson about picking strong overall projects though (which it seems like she may have).

The problem is that Gaga's acting roles are so few and far between that she really can't afford to fill it with HOGs  Like ok, a cute camp role in an otherwise mediocre movie would be cool and different if she acted every year but when you have 3 year waits between major roles it's kinda hard to get everyone behind. Same thing with her albums. You wait longer between projects and the need of making sure it's perfect is stronger.

Like I don't have an issue with these waits as long as they end up being with it. If she makes audiences wait forever just to meet them with something underwhelming, she'll lose her current status in the industry no matter how big The Fame was or how good ASIB was. At some point audiences will just leave her behind as a legacy act. And in turn, getting great roles and/or being a label priority will be a bigger and bigger challenge.

Are you implying the Chromatica era wasn't worth the multi-year wait for more dance-pop?

If the album had more depth, sonically, I think the wait wouldn't be so bad. Even with the same amount of visuals and a more expansive album, I feel like this wait wouldn't have felt so bad. For example BTW still hits hard today because it's so layered and complex.

 

Chromatica suffers from not only short songs that are not fully realized, but also most of the songs lack depth that majority of her other work has plenty of. It took me a while to get used to how jarringly short the songs are, like as soon as you're getting into it, it ends.

Remember she was also supposed to be in Bullet Train in Sandra Bullock's role, but had to drop out because of COVID delays. Although Sandra's role is actually mostly voice over for most of the movie until the end.

The ROM demo is the one that got away (although not really because I saved it before it got pulled)… The distorted deep voice was true 90s house inspired.

 

 

Underrated performance that always gets me emotional. I remember being so gagged after this aired.

At the same time that I'm happy she is turning into one of the biggest movie stars of recent years, I'm also mad because her acting demand will be so high we will start getting new albums every 10 years

Aside for the reasons already mentioned in first the role being perfect for Gaga, Ridley Scott for how much he hasn't deliver a solid movie in the last years, he still is a legendary director that directed movies who made history of cinema (Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, The Gladiator), all A list actors still work with him, Phoenix just starred in his last movie about Napoleon, HOG had all A list actors on it and a legend like Al Pacino, Oscar winners or nominated ones, for Gaga being offered a role like that as second movie and with that cast, everybody in her position would have accepted, it was a big deal.

 

Sure the script was messy, but the movie overall wasn't even bad as certain people make it sound, to me it was enjoyable and I like it better than ASIB as well, Gaga's performance was also more solid-mature.
