Added I Like It Rough to my workout playlist and whew, what an underrated sex bop from Miss Germanotta. I always forget about her.

Well think about it a new album doesn't make sense, the old tour isn't a year old, and they said its like chromatica. sounds like Chromatica extension, and idc either!

Personally I would like more a new album-era as well, but I'm not buying the fact she has managed to work on a new album without info about it leaking, not even some producers name, I would like to be proven wrong but it's just not realistic for how things have always worked with her in the last years, reality is that I doubt she has started working on new music, considering since the HOG filming, she has always been busy with something.

So I would definitely take some new Chromatica b-sides instead of nothing before JFAD, if I'm not wrong she recorded +100 songs for it and I'm sure there are some valid tracks that didn't make the album.

:giraffe:

I don't see Gaga loving Chromatica to the point that she'd want to revisit it three years after its release. But considering how badly the entire album rollout with all the leaks and world events was, and how much promo probably ended up being scrapped, perhaps she wants to '' do it right '' so to speak before laying it finally to rest. In that case a Chromatica Monster era wouldn't be that ridiculous, especially if she wants to do one era quickly and efficiently before J:FAD that'll probably take a good bunch of 2024 and early 2025 award season, coupled with Vegas obligations and perhaps starting a family if that's still her big goal.

for now it feels like it would be chromatica extension.Remember 'It Feels Good' prodcued by n dubz TULISA...

but idk. maybe she has worked on new music... also not to hype you guys but i couldn't see it being ballad music or piano music w.e. coming in summer and coming during pride... popga is coming? (poor me)

Or maybe she just has a free schedule and will just do some ideas from 2020 in 2023 with no new music, like pride and tour extension

As someone old enough to have experienced the drought between the end of the Born This Way Ball and the announcement of ARTPOP, this is by far her worst drought.

Charts aren’t everything. Aura and Sexxx Dreams are better songs than Applause.

Sexxx Dreams was ruined with the backing vocals added in the chorus. It lost the dreamy flow it had. And she destroyed the verses in Aura. Don’t get me started on Manicure as well!

I really liked AURA... it could have been a moment. She wanted it to be lead single irrc, and it WAS the telephone continuation. She planned a huge VMA performance wiht props, apparently VMAS said no - this added to her 'state' at the time, cause she felt that she made the VMAs what they were in the years before that, but they were giving miley preference (this is all what i read online at some point)

I've seen a few times now that s&xxx dreams was considered for lead, and apparently the  label wanted it. However, she pushed back on it and wanted 'AURA' in the end, and  I agree for the best, 'Applause' was chosen.

I read all this over the years:

Spoiler

S&xx dreams was then viewed as the second single, they wanted a male to be on the second single and for it to be a collab robin thicke was asked to join Gaga he pulled out and then Tara suggested R Kelly for DWUW.

I feel like DWUW was better, but that feature was not it. Venus-Aura-GUY should've been promo singles with visuals, singles: APp/DWYW/ and final song Gypsy performed on post xmas tv run (it was the only song that would've worked and was doing well whenever artpop got promo). actually looking back what ruined AP was r kelly and no mv as well as the GUY choice and abandonment. had they stuck with AP, it would'ver done commercially better at least. But it was dead after no mv for DWUW.

so @GraceRandolph is not far off with her wants as it was discussed at the time allegedly

That wasn't that bad in my experience especially after 3 fully years that were like +10 years for all the things she did.

2019 post Oscars was bad for me, every week we were expecting an announce for a year, it was exhausting :skull:

This has just started basically.

I'm still in tears over the prospect of Gaga and Joaquin having to do a press tour together... 100 people, gurl, YOU ARE NOT SAFE.

The best choice for the lead single would have been Venus with the seashell bikini and wavy brown hair being the signature image of the era. It has the most classic Gaga anthemic chorus, with the wacky verses similar to Bad Romance. With a massive video it would have stood more of a chance against Roar in the top 2 or 3.
Applause was just too weird for the GP, the video looks were all over the place, the verses can only be understood in koons language, the production is dated and the chorus is underwhelming. Venus, Gypsy, DWUW and Sex Dreams were the most single worthy (without R. Kelly) but I feel like her label stitched her up to fail with the lead single choice then messiness after that. They engineered her rise and fall so it’s no surprise she got new management

Applause was too weird for the GP but Venus wouldn't have been? it's like one of her most camp songs

The message of the song is more accessible and commercial. It perfectly blends campiness and relatability. Most importantly the chorus is abba-esque catchy and memorable. I genuinely think it would have become one of her biggest songs

LADY GAGA SINGLE COVERS RATE REMINDER

Welcome to the Lady Gaga single covers rate, where we will be ranking 41 covers! You are allowed to rank in increments of .25, ranging from 0.25 through 10. You are allowed one zero (0) and one eleven (11). Rankings to my PMs will be due on Sunday, April 30th by 4pm EDT.

To help in reducing some bias of comparing covers to others (specifically from the same era), I have shuffled the order with a randomizer. While I do recommend ranking the covers as individuals - how much you like the picture overall, the details, how well it represents the song - it is ultimately up to you on what your criteria is.

DWUW and Applause are really are some of her best pop singles. It was ‘weird’ at the time, but usually pop radio led singles in the USA become that way due to the fresh production - both of those singles had an insane burnout rate. The next time I saw this was for Dua’s ‘DSN’ and that was very sleek sonic led song that GP didn’t get tired of. Venus… couldn’t see it. It’s one for the clubs solely and for fans.

She just needed to pour money into venus as a promo single with mv debut, same for aura. But it was different back then, like with chromatica the best time to promote and showcase those albums were in the first 6 weeks - but again bad luck and botchiness took place.

Do What U Want (solo) should have been the lead. With a remix with a male singer thats not R ***** released a month after.

Applause spent 14 weeks in the Hot 100 top ten and is one of her biggest radio hits ever. The GP liked it just fine. :rip:

The video also carried the signature seashell bikini look. ARTPOP was an era was actually doing pretty well up (sans all the Roar comparisons) until DWUW. It was a poor artistic choice in general, making a song about using people's bodies with R. Kelly featured of all artists.

I'm typically a huge ARTPOP critic, but Applause is a perfect blend of Gaga's signature weirdness and a catchy earworm that made it a great lead single. I do agree that the era should have had a cohesive signature look, though. ARTPOP's major flaw was its inconsistency: seashell bikinis, flannel jackets and huge teeth, paint, sex, gods, planets, marijuanna, fashion, etc.
