At the same time... it's still it's own thing and I couldn't QUITE see it fitting it onto any of the previous records without sounding out of place. February 4, 20251 yr comment_27129792 I think the things that separate Abra from Chromatica are first the subject matter and certain lyrical Gaga hallmarks, and second the fact that it sort of feels a bit heavier and harder-hitting in its instrumentation. It's in the same overall genre as, say, Alice and ROM, but there's a little bit of an edge there. I think that's part of why it more immediately evokes tracks like Venus for some listeners. For me, the traces of TFM are in the gibberish spell calling back to Bad Romance (she never really entirely stopped doing it, but it certainly happened less in her later work) and in the general melody and vocal tone of the "lady in red" pre-chorus.
