PS: VIRGOS GROOVE needed to be 10min longer

SUMMER RENAISSANCE should have been 16 minutes long like Ms Summer’s very own “Love to Love You Baby”

She's saving the 10-minute tracks for Act 2: Renaissance Remix. She's getting into her Mariah bag for that one

One of my cousins who is exclusively into obscure dance and new wave, just purchased REN (her first Beyoncé album). She said that she’s so happy to see Bey trying new things, and this is the type of music she loves. I definitely think this album is doing its job and introducing Bey’s music to an entirely different demo. She’s obsessed with COZY, ENERGY, and HEATED.

Aww, that's so sweet to hear  I knew she would attract new fans with this album, it's a newfound territory for her.

I don't wanna be that person but the HONEYYYY Miss HONEYYYY sounds super obnoxious sorry 'bout it...

I was wondering where your review was on this masterpiece. 100% understand tho cause this site is becoming more and more unusable. :skull:

I believe you the first here to have I’m That Girl in your top favorites. Def agree I love she was very dedicated and spot on with carrying out the themes to this project (even tho she always does); but something about this album really brings out the fun and nostalgia. I can’t get over how she included so many 80s/90s elements then mixed with new age material.

I really admire the amount of switches in most tracks. Kanye was the last artist I knew to pull that off phenomenally. The track-by-track blends were amazing too. Just when you think a song is finna end she takes you in another direction.

I’m still stunned. She was smart for making BMS the lead and refusing to give a visual. The accompanying visuals on the same day would’ve took us out. :deadbanana2:

Yes BMS is a great lead after hearing the album...kind unlike anything else, so a good song to let stand out, but also kind of encapsulates what the rest.

I'm the first with an I'M THAT GIRL stancard!? I better nawt here slander!!

Question for the chart girlies, if I listen to other Renaissance tracks (downloaded) and then listen to BMS (Not downloaded) will the streams still count? I already bought a copy this lady isn’t getting a single cent out of me anymore

Can anyone explain to me why numbers are dropping the way they are for everyone? Is it because the industry isn't adapting quickly enough and adjusting streaming equivalents or because people aren't listening to music as much?

Streaming killed physical sales literally. People don't buy $9 CDs when they can stream multiple albums for the same price on streaming.

To compensate the loss in album's sales, charts around the world with BB as a precursor decided to convert streams in "equivalent" of albums but that calculation doesn't really allow big debuts because even 200M streams gives you "only" around 180K but it can give you longevity. The music industry itself is actually doing great revenue wise, the revenue is actually increasing somehow thanks to streaming.

The big drop in the last 2 years is however related to bundles. Since sales were collapsing, BB allowed artists to sell merchandise that came with a CD at a bargaining price or a tour ticket that came with CD. And those cheap CDs bundled with random items would count for the chart. And it was really helping, singers were at least maintaining good sales first week. But they suppressed it now because they were a lot of abuse, for example people would announce a tour and then cancel said tour just after BB had counted all those "free" CDs that came with tickets. Or sometimes the difference of prices between the item sold and the CD would just be so ridiculous so the CD would in a way be free. The Weekend's before last album was an awful example.

I think tour bundles are still allowed but the album should be sold separately, at minimum of 4 dollars and the fan has to add it himself as an item he wants. And BB will counted it only after the artist is actually gone on tour. I might be wrong though and they got rid of it entirely but 1.5 years ago that was the rule.

I’ve been stanning I’M THAT GIRL too, I don’t remember posting about it though but it’s definitely one of my faves. It’s a great intro… sort of serves as a prelude in my opinion… a great one at that :clap3:

From my understanding:

- a lot of stores that used to sell CDs dont anymore (many Walmarts, all the Best Buy etc…) CD sales were already starting to collapse, so when they saw a decline they just abandoned them. At one point Walmart was the biggest music retailer in the world.

- people stream catalog songs more than new songs

- I personally think billboard’s way of counting streams is a bit aggressive. Kendrick Lamar got 350M streams and that didn’t even translate to 300K opening week

- all the big artists are old, a factor in opening sales dwindling.

There’s also the fact that cars and laptops dont have a CD player anymore (a least most newer models) This is probably the biggest issue

The fact that this already has 100K+ likes…the public has spoken! I can envision us in five years complaining about how Alien Superstar was the multi-week #1 global smash that got away.

This song is all over Twitter. Even I’m now convinced it would make a great second single… I hope it just takes over on its own

Decided today that America Has A Problem is decisively #1 on the album.

Thanks for all the answers, I haven't cared about charts for years and I'm left behind :rip:

The formula of streams to sales is also still kinda insane when you think about it.

If “1,500 on-demand audio and/or video song streams = 10 track sales = 1 album sale” you basically have to stream RENAISSANCE 94 times (1,500 divided by 16) for it to count as one album sale.

So someone could love the album and stream it 50 times the first week and it still wouldn’t be equivalent to them just purchasing it once. I don’t think I’ve ever streamed a single album enough for it to count as one sale, which is why I still try to buy albums from people I really like because the formula is a little wild as it currently is.

Same. If I really love an album, i buy the vinyl because it’s cute to display. A lot artists are losing out.

Also, I’m 90% sure Act II is not a new album. It’s probably just the visual component of Renaissance.

This is true but it opens up another can of worms. Labels get all the money leaving artists with nothing. The streaming contracts need to be renegotiated.

I wish Honey was longer. :jonny2: When the Miss Honey beat kicks in at 4:24 it feels like it's about to get going but then it ends.

isn't it confirmed that there are 3 albums altogether recorded over the last 3 years?

I feel the same about Summer Renaissance. You want it to keep going and going.

Virgo's Groove too. 6 minutes just isn't long enough. There's so many twists and turns in that song but it still leaves you wanting more. She's gonna have to give us an album of extended mixes, I fear. :jonny:

OKAY the TEXTURES on Beyoncé's voice on ALL UP IN YOUR MIND....

i need the acapella to hear it isolated, i LOVE her choice to do that.

I can’t believe people are trying to convince us 300k is bad when it’s similar to pulling 500k in 2016 given the drop in pure sales over the years. Streaming services are expected to grow 10x larger over the next few years marking the end of pure sales so miss BB200 will have to adjust.
