Those with Spotify could buy AM for a month and stream it on there too. Would help the album too.

Regarding the Beyoncé being 40 discourse I think its important to understand that Beyoncé's branding is not reliant on how youthful she looks. She's always been beautiful and instead of youth she embodies energy and power, something not even the 20 something popgirls have.

She has always looked hot, whether in her teens, 20s, 30s and even now. No one hears 'Beyoncé' and goes 'yeah shes too old to be making bangers' and not to mention how reclusive she is. She appears every now and then in remixes and reminds people shes there but not enough that people go 'wait isnt she too old to be running with the it rappers and girlies?'.

Not to mention she sparsely makes public appearances and it makes her more elusive as a brand and more desirable regardless of what her actual age is.

Ageism is a reality but Beyoncé refuses to act like its a thing and its why it never caught up with her. She resists the age ceiling being built around women and the fact that BMS is a potential runner for #1, a solo single, 25 years into her career, is proof of that.

Yep.

Also the world is changing. It’s not 2002 when 40 year old women were automatically viewed as old and legacy. In this day in age you can be whatever you want at what ever age if you are bringing the heat and have flexibility.

Not to mention, the demographics are changing and the are more 30 somethings and 40 somethings consuming music than teenagers.

Every time some says “Bey a 40 year old did that” I cringe. What a dated way to think. If we want to say dang 25 years in the game and top 5! That would make more sense.

She's felt inaccessible for a while and it's allowed her to ascend to almost pop deity status, but at the same time her elusiveness has sort of muddied certain aspects of her legacy.

The truth is, it's been a while since Beyoncé has had a "hit", BMS is the first song in a while that non fans are acutely aware of. Drunk In Love was the last song she had that felt like a hit. Nothing off of Lemonade was really a hit, and that's thanks to her sabotage :rip:

THIS is so on the mark.

As one who feels really dialled into the mechanics of her brand, it's always been clear that her elusiveness and actively doing the opposite of what everyone says is THE reason she's ascended into this new realm of revered megastar. I really don't think her playing the Pop star game in the way a lot of fans have been calling for would have her on the pedestal she's on now.

The drawback is definitely the limited awareness of her latter music and, IMO, the over-praise for some of her purposefully darker material (like a lot of Lemonade IMO because of her artistic positioning.

I agree!

Her almost being "beyond" age and keeping consistent with her sound and aesthetic definitely helps the pushback against ageism and the other hurdles older artists face.

But I do think it's delaying the inevitable. Much as I want her to, Bey is unlikely to (totally) reinvent the wheel on that front. The game is the game.

What I do have faith in is that she will switch it up before she's forced to. She's mastered that post-4.

I’m guilty of sometimes saying “40 year old”. It’s only because you have to remind these “ why isn’t Beyoncé streaming like….”    *******:deadbanana:

40 is 40, let's not. It's more difficult at 40 whatever image you project.

I also don't feel as if it's better now. Madonna started to really flop in the streaming era (when the woman survived everything!!) and while rock groups were not scoring hits, every one of their albums used to hit #1 on BB200 for at least a week. The streaming era has killed all that. They can't compete with the Drakes or the Bad Bunnys of this world.

The only way old people get appreciation in the streaming era is for old songs that are used for nostalgic effect in shows, movies or at Xmas but they will actually not check for their current material. Gen Z just seems to have a fascinating with the 90's and 80's and old music not actually with old people making music.

40 is 40. And?  This is happening while Kate Bush a 63 year old is also competing  on the charts with Bey at the same time.

Whatever other 40 year old girls that may be out there have their own problems with why they can’t chart mostly due to their inconsistency and lack of vision.

Beyonce is creative and ever evolving. Her age is not a handicap that is supposed to by default hold her back. She is showing what you can to at the top of your game.

Ya’ll want sis to have a special sticker that says “At 40”, when Tina Turner had What’s Love Got To Do With It?

Btw I can’t wait for her Rock era. Yasss.

Kate bush is an anomaly and it isn’t going to be a new trend. RUTH has been featured on countless other shows and have had prominent covers and it took stranger things for it to get its flowers. Ageism is still very prominent in the industry.

It's too bad that she didn't score any hits last decade but hey, at least we have the critically acclaimed Yoncé that none of the pop girls could reach. Thanks to ST, she actually 'trained' herself not to relied so much on promotion but sell based off her name alone (fast forward to 2020, pandemic occured and everyone couldn't leave the house and promote their albums).

Over the last decade, the radio paid her dust but she sold albums and tour with no radio hits under her belt. If she continued chasing radio hits, she will ended up like Pink/Kelly/Katy where the moment their songs aren't getting radio play, they'll flop and let's be real, her being elusive and not bothering to promote probably inspire Rih, Taylor and Gaga now. You see how some celebrities has 0 following on Instagram? B started it.

Oh wow this thread has already become miserable again :deadbanana2:

Ageism is prominent, I don’t disagree. But we’re talking about Beyoncé, not Monica or Brandy.

I don’t know, Maybe I view the world and it’s possibilities a lil different. “I ain’t never seen a ceiling in my whole life”. That’s word to Blue.

I do agree that B should not be congratulated for succeeding at 40. And I cringe when people bring that up because ageism shouldn't be a thing but it is, 40 in this industry is not so easy and I disagree about 40 being different for B because she's "strong".

And RUTH is an old song, an old song promoted in a GenZ catered TV show. Gen Z are fans of old songs and love nostalgia.

Which new song from Kate Bush is thriving? Which new song from any woman above 50 is thriving? Gwen Stefani has been trying her hardest for 5 years. Like I said, the streaming era is the first time Madonna hasn't succeeded and straight bombed.

Mariah has a song every Xmas topping the charts yet the album that song comes from can't reach #1 and the album she put out after was a flop. As a matter of fact all her attempts to get another current Xmas hit failed.

Bey, Madonna, Aretha or Tina are exceptions not rules.

Let's be real here...40 IS a thing. Pointing to Kate Bush (a total anomaly driven by viral success of a show) doesn't erase the reality.

Like @BnPacsaid, even those like Madonna and Rolling Stones who found ways to play the game are having the rug swept from underneath them with streaming and things like bundling being eliminated.

Beyonce is amazing and all the things we love her for, but there is a wider industry that she exists within and it operates a certain way. She's not immune to the BS side of it, either.

As an innovator and universally loved figure, I'll give you that she will almost certainly be able to stretch out her MPG run...probably longer than the average. But the mechanics of entertainment at large has always thrived on youth culture. It's literally how these corporations make their money. It's an ever-green audience. There will ALWAYS be young people, with few cares in the world for who music is their life before life-life and distracting responsibilities kick  in.

I see Bey going full Tina Turner and her queendom being more about record-breaking tour gross into her late 40s-50s and beyond. Once being "down with the young'ens" is no longer part of her hustle, I see her breaking records on the live scene, possibly even Vegas etc. And it will be ok.

Again, she's smartly been able to pivot before she's needed to so always feels at the wheel of her own career.

It is Beyoncé and her team job to promote her music and manage her career, it is not y’all job. Beyoncé isn’t some new artist.y’all need to stay in y’all places as fan.  If Beyoncé doesn’t care about the chart why y’all care so much? Y’all miserable ?. Enjoy the music and let her team do their job. The album and tour will do well. In 5 days we have 15 new Beyoncé songs.

I’m not discounting ageism is a thing. But we stan for Beyoncé. The queen of the visual album, the FRIDAY Release, the concept, the genius. My thought process is if you stay on the cutting edge, that’s where your audience meets you. You have a whole list of pop stars who debuted between 1980- 2005 who don’t have a shot in hell.

But then you have Beyoncé who demands the conversation. Not inspite of her age but because of her track record for excellence. And in my humble opinion, the reverence for her excellence is the bigger take away.

Came to post the same? Not sure how reliable...but wtf is going on?

I'm still 100% optimistic and don't buy that nothing is coming, but this is all soo....confusing.

One scenario I'm mulling is that maybe the (assumed) visual album or series  really lives as one full piece on Netflix. Meaning it can't run in pieces on YouTube (possibly even contractually). So maybe just maybe Bey will have both the Netflix film AND separate visuals for separate songs? Think of how Formation actually isn't part of Lemonade.

Or maybe we're getting some kind of pre-recorded live activation and that's what it's for?

I just refuse to buy the idea that absolutely nothing is ready to roll in time for Friday. Neither Bey or her team are incompetent and I don't see that RANDOMLY starting with her most important album drop in years.

7/11 and sorry were hit songs. drunk in love was a smash though like you played that song everybody went the **** off :jonny4:

Yeah I think its silly to do all these extra steps to stream excessively/buy the song 20 times. It goes against what I believe Bey wants of her fans in the first place :gaycat6:
