My hot take is she should not submit the album to any genre category (and yes this is possible Jon Batiste did it last year). I mean she literally professed about how "This isn't a country album, it's a Beyonce album" and had an interlude talking about how genres are "funny" things made to be defied... stand by that then. Submitting to Country when the album factually isn't a real country album then complaining about it being snubbed or whatever is stupid sorry. If you want to defy genres, then you need to do it 100% and deal with not fitting in conventional genre categories.

I agree..but technically it is an AMERICANA album and should be nominated there

Weren't people saying the album fit perfectly into Americana genres?

I agree that I don't see her being a runaway favorite in any Grammy category, which is the first time for a few albums. I see a clearer path for her in Americana Album rather than Country; Americana/American roots voters seem to be more progressive (even as Country Grammy voters lean more liberal). If she were in Country Album, she'd be competing against Chris Stapleton, who's beloved in that field.

 

Also, while the album as a whole is very acclaimed and had a strong opening, I think it remains to be seen how receptive country audiences specifically are to the record (which can be a better indicator of her chances in the genre). As an example, despite Texas Hold Em's overall success, it only peaked at #33 on country radio, vs #7 on Pop and Rhythmic (this likely reflects systematic issues with country programmers and audiences though). Compare that to Shaboozey going #1 on that format.

 

CMAs can provide some insight, but for obvious reasons they may not be the most "unbiased" indicator. No matter how she performs in noms/wins there though, it could help her build a narrative that'll benefit her the Grammys. 

 

In any case, curious to see how she'll submit.

For Freedom to go #1 on R&B/Rhythmic charts is kinda sad for the category in general. A part from SZA and Beyonce, there's not a whole lot of women in R&B pulling in sizable numbers/sales anymore. Anti is still carrying from 2016 at that Of course there's Teyana and Summer Walker, but if feels like there be doing 10x better if the year was 2004. It's no wonder people say Bey's recurrent streams from the 2010s are "bad" .. like they actually aren't when you consider all of this.

 

AM needs to start releasing their numbers for better perspective

I honestly have ZERO expectations for the upcoming Grammy's after Jay's speech at last year's ceremony, the "RENAISSANCE" and other AOTY snubs, etc. I have officially hoped off the Grammy's train after the 2023 ceremony. Also, Bey doesn't even properly promote her music like I'm sure the Grammy's committee would want her to, so why should we care?

I would love it if Bey would shut down the whole Grammy talk by not submitting anything and then just send her collaborators some gilfts and letters to thank them for being on the album.We know she wants to honor the people working on her albums with Grammys but enough is enough. Stop letting people exploit your name and image for some stupid awards. Next year the entire ceremony will be build around Beyoncé and if she will win AOTY. Thanks to Jay's little speech on that stage, that probably pissed off those judges even more,  it will be set up to humiliate her because they wont give it to her. If she is doing things to break rules and not follow the industry then it's time to show it in the most bold way and skip the Grammys for a few years. Art is subjective, too much so that awards truly dont matter at the end of the day.

I really don't want to mention #that lady's name but this tweet got me curious. Does Beyoncé actually have a history with Azaelia Banks? Did she try to work with her and it fell through? For context the og post is some guy who made an awful remix of cuff hit (not wetter remix) and her team tried to pay him pennies and wanted full rights so he said no. He was also the opening dj for Renaissance tour at her birthday show.

People still release singles, but even back in the day people were dropping lots of singles. Aretha and co were dropping new songs and albums like every eight months
