The unspoken perks of paying to be in Club Renaissance is that everytime I watch a different angle of my show, I can pick myself out in the crowd. 

 

It's like having different camera men recording me having fun. Honestly immortalizes the experience for me that much more.

For starters, my name is Caché McClay and I am honored to say I am the inaugural Beyoncé Knowles-Carter reporter for the USA TODAY Network and The Tennessean. It’s not every day a job aligns with the essence of your entire being — as a journalist and Beyoncé fan — but, for me, that day has come and I couldn’t be more excited. I do not take this role lighty. Beyoncé is one of the most renowned and influential movers and shakers of our time, undeniably. As an artist, businesswoman and cultural icon, she quite frankly runs the world. As a Howard University graduate, having worked in many different newsrooms such as Hearst Television,  BBC News and TMZ, I feel fit for this position. 

 

I grew up in a Beyoncé household, and her melodies were often my alarm on Saturday mornings — and certainly on the playlist for my family’s weekly cleaning rituals. Moreover, I saw firsthand the impact Beyoncé had on my mom and sister as Black women, and that trickled down to me. Not only were we moved by her music, but we were moved by her remarkable worldwide achievements.

 

The impact Beyoncé has had on my older sister, mom and me is just a microcosm of her impact on the rest of the world. Like many others, I have witnessed the trajectory of her career and am both amazed and inspired. She teaches young women and girls to know their worth and walk confidently. Simultaneously, she uses her voice to elevate communities and social issues, alike. It is fair to say Yoncé holds weight in so many different realms. She has shown the world she is an industry powerhouse, a cultural icon, economic engine, and the list continues. I look forward to getting down to the nitty gritty of those aspects of her career, one step at a time. I will do my due diligence in highlighting all things Beyoncé, while staying true to myself as a journalist.

 

There’s certainly no shortage of news to cover about the highly decorated, Grammy-winning artist. For example, her evolution as a businesswoman is worth a look. Beyoncé has become a huge phenomenon, known for surprise drops and a sometimes coy marketing style. She continues to up the stakes, and her mastery of the business world is apparent from the launch of her 2011 fashion brand House of Deréon up through now with her wildly popular athleisure clothing line Ivy Park. Beyoncé has given us a lot to look forward to this year. Coming off her groundbreaking Renaissance World Tour, she’s already pivoted to the launch of her new fragrance Cé Noir and hinted at an upcoming hair-care line. 

 

In the coming weeks, Queen Bey will unveil the inner workings of her concert through her highly anticipated documentary “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” in theaters on Dec. 1. I plan to give readers a front-row seat to it all. As I enter my first days, please know that I am passionate and over the moon about covering Beyoncé. No shade but Caché McClay sounds likes a drag name. 

Realistically, Sexy Little Thug would've likely debuted at #1 in the digital era / streaming age. At the time of it's release/peak it had heavy rotation on urban and would've easily smashed a la 7 Rings (a mix of a massively popular rap song, made extremely feminine and bragging about beauty/wealth). Beyonce at that time too (2004) was a "It Girl" so the young audience would've been ideal and ate it right on up (viral ****). It's interesting how now songs can go #1 based on concentrated popularity for a few weeks due to new forms of media like Youtube/Tik Tok when during the DIL era it was all airplay/physical sales.

I feel Check On It has that kind of potential if it were to catch wind. It’s arguably one of her catchiest hits that Gen Z who are less familiarized with her older, more “in passing” hits.

I know the original song is diamond, but 50 Cent really let not winning the girl trick him out of Millions in royalties.

 

I 100% believe he liked B and made a play that got ignored. Probably didn't help that he's been in a one-sided beef with Jay-Z for years.

I feel like it came too late in Bey’s career. Taylor is like at the peak of hers, with a whole bunch of releases and fan interactions. 
 

It would have made more sense for Bey to have her writer start in 2013. Now she just gives us an album, a tour, and a perfume then disappears. Hell, we barely have anything to talk about just in here. But who knows, maybe the next two Acts will breath life back into stan activity.

I’m pretty sure someone on twitter debunked sexy little thug being more popular than the original and 50 cent getting it removed from radio.

Of course the next albums will give us sth to talk about, but I'm very convinced we wont get more content. Thats what stanning Bey moving forward is like.

Yeah, I think Jay ruined it and 50 had it pulled from radio so then it became more of a "cult classic" deep dive fans know it, but it could've been massive in 04. I wonder if he regrets that now, it would've made so much money.

It's down bad for me.

 

Have not listened to the album properly in quite a while and decided to put it on today while working. All that came to my mind is how infuriating it is that we don't have videos and imagining what they could be and how enjoyable it would be to have them. I couldn't even properly focus on and appreciate the music. Her teasing them, making us anticipate, thinking something must be around the corner for a ******* year and a half has been such an unsatisfactory journey.

 

What was something mildly irritating and upsetting at first has now developed into a real frustration for me.

 

I'm not even saying this to be funny & extra or to get some kiis, but she really managed to sour my experience with her music and the way I interact with it. I know I shouldn't care this much, but I do, and I can't help it. I do not anticipate nor feel excited about new music from her at all anymore, really. 

 

I'm looking forward the tour film and know I will enjoy the live versions because I'll be able to associate them with the visual of the performances. But outside of that, she could retire tomorrow and I'll be glad .
