god those lemonade numbers are abysmal 

I duno it kind of makes sense to me that people are not listening to her LAST album, after she just gave us a great new, fun album, and instead would turn to her older, farther back works that also have the kind of fun vibe that RENAISSANCE served us.

 

I mean, aside from the fact that she didn't do anything to solidify Lemonade's singles in the public consciousness and allowed no GP affinity to the album to build through keeping it off streaming for so long...

what's this rule about the top 50 all about? if you go below Top 50 for a week and don't increase after that you're off? What a weird chart rule. I think I remember someone saying it is to encourage new songs being able to chart? And how does it work to come back? You just need to start increasing again?

iirc, to come back, you need to have enough points to return to the top-50. So if you "only" have enough points to land at #51, you are left off the chart. It's such a stupid rule.

4 weeks. The other song lasted for 33 weeks and CI is predicted to rise to #22 in its 31st week.

Girl, she performed Formation at the SuperBowl and the entire album at the VMAs, let’s not

 

It’s a great album, but it’s not a good “streaming” album if that makes sense. It’s hella political and of it’s time. I know the fans love to sprint to say “NO promo!” But she promoted it hella, she took a while to put it on Spotify, the public moved on

Oh, they dropped it days ago. It's been hurtling down the radio chart for a while now, which is why I'm surprised at the predicted increase in positions. The streaming stability must be out-weighing.

Right when Renaissance was announced I was legit seeing comments from people saying they’re annoyed that Lemonade isn’t on streaming.

Performing at the Super Bowl is not going to solidify your lead single in the public's consciousness as it relates to them wanting to go re-stream it six years after the fact if it is not for sale, not on streaming, not sent to radio and the music video is unlisted when that performance occurs and the associated album is held off streaming platforms for three of those six years. As for the VMAs, that was a medley and thus put no focus whatsoever on any single. It was album promo, not single promo. The closet single released to that performance was Freedom, released as a single a week or two later, and was not performed at the VMAs.

 

I've not said she didn't do promo for the album, but as far as aligning it to the singles at the moment, she didn't do anything to push her singles and get GP hits that they would continue to stream later.

 

My point is reiterated in what you said about Lemonade not being a streaming album given it is political (and was not made to be a streaming album). Compare that to RENAISSANCE whose politics are fun, and who is optimized for streaming... there's a big difference and that's what I mean by saying it's obvious people would rather go back and listen to more fun, older records than her last album of an entirely different vibe.

Also though its release did make some headlines, they were really only novelty headlines. It's not like she released a music video for the Sorry demo or did any promotion of the album on talk shows or whatever to get word out there to go check it out. And it came out the same week that Homecoming's film and album was released.

 

I still think The Gift's release coming right after the OST and Spirit being the lead for both confused people too and/or didn't properly outline that there was a new album out for anyone but pop fans.
