Do you procrastinate? How to stop?

Featured Replies

If procrastinating was a sport, I would win bronze, silver and gold.

I am currently doing an all nighter because my paper is due 10 hours and I still need 5 pages.

I tried starting earlier, but I can't. Do I need professional help ? It's an issue. Am I stupid?

Anybody got any tips? Besides logging off atrl thanks

YES. I always hear my classmates saying how they start preparing for exams months (!) in advance. There's no way I have ever started studying more than a week before suburban

I need to learn. It's not that I do bad, but my mental health plummets because I stress myself out for no reason and my heart is soon to give up due to all of the Redbulls redface

I've been procrastinating A LOT in these past few weeks and I don't know what to do anymore, I'm feeling so dysfunctional it's getting desperate. Usually eating some candy helps me focus but that's not working anymore. I think I might seek a doctor soon because I feel like my brain is just not working as it should weeps

I relate to you very much. I ate snacks too, now I'm just fat and I still procrastinate.

We will get it under control heart Maybe it's burn out ?

You ever heard of functional freeze? Sounds like you get that

I don't get the point of starting early on anything if I can do it just as well the night before. Okay congrats on studying 4 months before an exam, but you and I have the same score.

If something requires early planning, I'll do it, but no sooner than needed unless I need to compete with someone insane.

i feel like most people procrastinate to some degree. the ones who say they prepare for exams and papers months in advance are lying half the time lol

It happens to me often, try to strike a balance between what you like and your responsibilities, that has helped me because I have been really messy this last couple of weeks. =/

Try with 10 minutes of studying, then go for 15 minutes and try to focus.

Hope u guys feel better, stay focused! One day you are in bed and then you have all your goals and attending to your fav concert!

i struggle with this so much that I used to study just 30 minutes before an exam back in college

I am a big procrastinator and trapped myself with putting unnuecedsey all-nighters in COUNTLESS situations

After learning my lesson a hundred times later, one "counter" I would do to address my issue is that IF I think that a task can be done overnight, I always assume I am UNDERESTIMATING and in actuality, the task takes more time to accomplish.

Thus, what I do is I put some ALLOWANCE on it, don't believe the "raw" number. So in reality, I would START it 3 days (1 day to do the task + 2 days allowance) before the deadline of whatever tasks I'm doing so. If you want to be conservative, you can add more days. I noticed that once you have STARTED the work, you would have a better grasp of how long it would really take to finish it vs. guestimating how long it would take. I really hope this "trick" works for you too!

I think it's fine to procrastinate in your school or college days since studying, assignments and learning in general is much easier compared to actually working where there's a lot more external variables at play.

In my case, I learned the hard way during my first entry level job why procrastination no longer flies in work environment, where you have stricter deadlines and actual people micromanaging you. It took a while to course-correct and change your work ethic and discipline so you could actually pay your bills.

My advice don't be concerned too much about procrastination as a student as you will eventually adapt and change your ways in due time.

I always do that too, I think everyone does to some degree tbh.

What I realized is that the hardest part is just to start with a task. So I tell myself ok I'll just start and then I can finish it later. Once I actually begin working on something it's much easier to finish it in one go or later on since you know you've already done a part of it.

i know the exact solution to this but it's too long to type it out. i'll post it later maybe
