She's been trying to achieve Brat levels of success for over a decade, but she's also been actively putting out very experimental pop music that would never have any chance at charting at the same time. Part of her hates needing to make music with a specific sound to be successful, and the other loves the results. I wouldn't look into it any deeper than that.

This is great! I love hearing her vocals more stripped back. She's 2/2 so far. So glad she didn't serve BRAT 2.0

I think it's that but also all of her Brat interviews were about the 'pendulum' of her being mainstream but also not really, and that that's effectively where her artistry comes from. I think she wants to maintain that
