I think most people in open relationships know when their partners are hanging out with other people. That picture is more about cheating than anything else.

I don't think so. And I'd say that's probably more true for monogamous couples where cheating is involved, not open relationships where outisde relations are allowed, because though all are different, open relationships are based on the communication about and allowance of outside sex, so the need to hide it and lie is inherently unnecessary and not really a defining feature of them.

Unless you have an agreement where you don't want to hear about it, then sure, someone can lie, but that's essentially mandated lying.

This is just someone tweeting something stupid because they have no idea what open relationships are. They probably also think that open relationships are the same as cheating or that it means you're friends with benefits. As usual, the loudest against them are the more ignorant about them.

no but i have close friends who are, and they actually kiki with each other about their dates and their crushes. but as most relationships, open relationships also have agreements and when someone breaks them that's what's considered cheating. the image depicted in the op says more about monagamous relationships than open relationships imo

I've never been in one with any of my boyfriends because it's not for me. However, I have friends who are in an open relationship that I used to hook up with all the time. They were always open with each other on who they f*cked and when. There were never any secrets (that I know of). I just know that if one of their hook ups were kept hidden or they lied about it, that was considered a no, no. That photo in the OP definitely does not represent an open relationship, that's cheating sis.

does it only count as cheating if you don't tell the person? meaning if you tell the person before or after then it's ok? like you get ****** even tho your boyfriend didn't know beforehand, but if you tell him after then it's ok anyways?
