Why is an album track from 2024 outstreaming recent #1 Billboard Hot 100 single Opalite? I thought Max Martin was supposed to give her smash hits .

Because more people are streaming Wildflower than Opalite, just like more people streaming Taylor Swift is the reason she has more monthly listeners and daily streams than Billie Eilish

Wildflower is just a superior song. Opalite's success is fan-driven, very much like Taylor's overall success (not a bad thing, though), but Wildflower's consumption is a better metric for what the general population is actually listening to.

This is such a weird argument. People who willingly choose to stream a song by Billie are definitively Billie fans. Most streaming is fan engagement. "Casual" / GP listeners are usually tracked by radio and things like Pandora, where the consumer doesn't actively choose what they're listening to.

Also, before I get into a bunch of back and forth, I'm willing to admit I enjoy Wildflower more than Opalite. But I think you guys are corny when you use one woman to tear down another (it applies both ways)

Wildflower is a phenomenon of a slow burn by the biggest girl of the native streaming pop girls. Opalite is going to reach 1 billion streams over twice as fast as Lunch (and possibly even faster outright). Opalite's better comparisons are songs by peer artists to Taylor, anyway. But even if you wanna compare her to Billie, Billie only has Birds, Wildflower, and WWIMF, that have done as well or better this decade in terms of consumption (given the time since release). For chart runs, only Birds has outdone Opalite. And that's still true if you only count before Taylor even started her push.

That will depend on Billboard allowing Taylor to bypass recurrency rules. So far no one but Billie got to skip them, so i'm gonna guess not

If Taylor wanted to bypass that, she could release vinyl variants for Opalite every week then.
