Featured Replies

since YouTube will not be factored in billboards formula, will Opalites exclusive premiere on Spotify and Apple Music change the industry norm?

For chart obsessed artists only. I cannot imagine a world where all of the artists stop putting their MV on Youtube which is THE place where everyone watches MVs. But preventing your fans and the pub

It's only exclusive to Apple/Spotify for the first 2 days, it releases on YouTube after that.

Well, yes, just like everything Taylor does. After all, they don't call her THE MUSIC INDUSTRY for nothing. But let's be honest, the OTHs are too bitter to admit it.

But preventing your fans and the public to easily have access to your videos is incredibly stupid in a way. Most people don't use that apple platform nor have a subscription to spotify.

Yes, music videos will be exclusive for the first few days or weeks on streaming. The same for lyric videos etc.

Not some user thinks YouTube is THE place for music videos when the views are dropping since a few years. bibliahh

This will be like the Apple Music letter 2.0 but instead it will be YouTube conceding it lost the fight to Taylor, and agree to let Billboard use their metrics again

Oh ok didn't know that

At the moment I see it as a good thing cause it may be pressuring YouTube to find a solution with Billboard. Not counting one of the top3 streaming platforms for your charts is just dumb and makes the charts too inaccurate.

But music videos have mostly been a marketing tool for a song before and after Youtubes peak. So I doubt a lot of artists will follow Taylor with this strategy

Depends on where you are in the world. In Europe Deezer, Amazon Music and Qobuz are pretty big. Japan, South Korea & China don't use either really in comparison to their domestic services (actually YouTube Music just became the streaming service with the biggest market share in South Korea last year). The Middle East also has their own domestic services that they use over Spotify/Apple Music. Spotify has a unique dominance over North America and Southeast Asia.

On topic: I think this will just be like 2017 when artists released their music videos exclusively to Apple Music and then to YouTube. I don't think it will stick.

i don't like taylor but literally every major artist was gonna do what she is doing, she will just be the first to do it

It's obviously how it's gonna be from now, everyone saw it coming the minute YouTube stopped counting for Billboard and when Spotify added videos.

Her exclusivity window is only a couple days, but some for sure will have mvs or alternate videos exclusive to Spotify Premium/Apple Music forever.

How? I don't know about Spotify, but Apple Music makes it difficult to play music videos with its not so intuititive UI. Clearly the app wasn't built for video. And don't even try it on the desktop app.

Stans are going to brag about this as if it was something genius? She is going to get dragged and be called chart obsessed if this doesn't get her to #1

I hope the **** not

Youtube is Free

AM is not Free. Video is only included in Spotify Premium

No I don't think the industry will be changed by someone flailing their limbs around in a sparkly mini dress/bodysuit

Didn't people say the same thing when Spotify started with those vertical videos, and they quickly went away? Not related to Taylor, but people switching to Spotify as a place to watch MVs.
