Spotify clocks tea on Wrapped: "It's literally data."

Featured Replies

Last quote in full: "Wrapped has been around for 11 years, so the idea that it was invented by one person during a 2019 internship just isn't accurate. Wrapped started as a data listening experience in 2013, evolved into Wrapped in 2016, expanded into interactive microsites in 2017, and by 2018 our product and engineering teams were already deep into mapping out the broadened in-app experience."

I couldn't get my Spotify Wrapped since it only works for app version of it and my phone doesn't support the new iOS so I can't update Spotify and I am not about to buy a new phone just to get that.

thanks for sharing that

My Spotify Wrapped was so wrong like my top album i swear I've only listen to twice but the thing is one song from that album i listen to a lot so it gave me the entire album based off one song which is crazy!

Another reason why Apple Music is superior. Not only did they correctly list my most played artists of 2025, they didn't run to substack to shade anyone.

So your Wrapped is actually correct?

That's how it works babe, unless you're listening to the single release it's going to count toward the album I fear

thats how it works! you play any song from an album, that one song play will count towards the total album plays. if you play a 12-track album once through in full, you get 12 plays attributed to that album. if you listen to 1 song from an album 3 times you get 3 plays attributed to the total plays.

people are just so incredibly dumb (proved by this thread already).

I think the confusion is it doesn't 100% match up with lastfm, but I think that's because Spotify counts a stream as 30 seconds of a song, whereas lastfm only scrobbles a track if you listen to at least half of the song.

So that's why they added the number of plays this year. Which, honestly, I found it awful. The previous playlists balanced the tracks to give it a nice listening experience, now it's just in literal order of most played. And people still complained. Just ignore the complains, if those people cared about so much they'd just leave Spotify, which they don't.

And then the same people complaining about privacy issues go to twitter with: "my discover weekly was so bad this week, spotify does not know me at all". PICK A SIDE!

well improve your data tracking methods cause my last.fm outsells every year

either hire @PenguinTim or learn how to count! stare

Well maybe because it cuts off mid November but like get stats.fm if ya want accurate data

Low-key mine made no sense since hyunjin was at #3 and d4vd was at #2 yet I only listen to always love and the rush remix 💀 yet Troye was at #5 but legit is no biggy it's never gonna be completely accurate people always got something to complain about

My last fm top 5 artists was the same as my Wrapped

The songs were slightly different but that's probably because I spam played some and they filtered it lol

We live in a trumpist world where people can easily claim they're right even when they're obviously not

Sorry to have a mini-breakdown on Taylor's birthday (🎂) but people are so silly, it's data, it's your data, read it and analyse it without stopping the count

Once I'm hired i'll endeavor to make sure that Carly is accurately represented in everyone's wrapped

Did they actually come up with this whole Wrapped thing though? Whenever I'm in Türkiye for business, the local delivery app is trying to tell me how many kebabs I have ordered last year, and their reports are almost as fancy as Spotify Wrapped rip I just wanna know if Spotify was the first company to come up with this idea.

My only issue with them is that they only track plays from January 1 to mid-November.
A month and a half is lost.
