This makes no sense. Bad Bunny is nominated in three GF categories, just like Gaga, so why would it specifically require an AOTY win to make that statement? Gaga used her winning speech at this year's Grammys to address the "trans people deserve love.." and that wasn't even one of the main categories.

The fact that before Mayhem came out I only listened to DWAS like twice but I still knew all the lyrics bc of how much they played it everywhere... a 2010 domination type of tea

It makes sense because when I said "STATEMENT" is not about a speech itself, is about using the biggest and most talked award at the night (AOTY) against Trump/MAGA/ICE.

ROTY and SOTY are also huge but the real conversation and impact is AOTY and the way his PR team is working with this narrative is clear! No one's care about him winning ROTY or SOTY... Is all about AOTY

Something to also consider is the turnaround time needed for vinyl production. Harlequin had vinyls ready on release day, so I'm guessing the decision to not include DWAS was made much earlier than we're thinking. But from what I understand, the minimum turnaround time for vinyls is around 8 weeks, and DWAS wasn't even out 8 weeks before Harlequin, so...I have no idea.

I did always find it weird that even though DWAS was very obviously Joker adjacent in theme and visuals, no one ever outright said it was connected to it upon release, which you would think would be the case before anyone knew how much it would bomb. This makes me wonder if the decision to cut DWAS's ties with JFAD was made after the music video was shot, but before it was released. This timeline could work in terms of the vinyl turnaround issue. Perhaps she saw how the final product of JFAD was turning out and decided then to pull the plug on anything extra, but it was too late for DWAS because the video was already recorded (and Harlequin she was obviously too passionate about to just let be unreleased).

So much lore to this, I wish we could know the full story!

I wish they had kept Happy Mistake on Mayhem as well because it is such a beautiful song and should get more visibility.

Also, you can tell Happy Mistake comes from the same sessions as Perfect Celebrity, Garden of Eden, Can't Stop the High, Blade of Grass, i.e. later in the writing sessions when she was doing that whole electro grunge thing. The only thing that stands out is Bloodpop's involvement, but idk, it still makes sense if Happy Mistake was originally the closer of Mayhem.
