I don't think Cowboy Carter is as in your face as it seems, you really have to do some research to get the full story even with all that's being explicitly said.

American Requiem uses a lot of Beatles cues and they represent the first British Invasion, in which a lot of british groups got really famous in the US while using styles from uncredited black musicians. The Beatles specifically took a lot of cues from black girl groups from the 60s (vocal harmonies/layering) and Blackbird is a song about black women in America. So Beyoncé, a black woman who got famous as part of a girl group, covering them is just the perfect "payback". There's a level of subtext in those two songs alone that goes beyond anything on Renaissance.

Same happens with Ya Ya. She samples the Beach Boys whose first hit single Surfin USA had to include Chuck Berry as a writer because the song copied Sweet Little Sixteen. And that's why Oh Lousiana comes next.

There's stories beyond the use of such songs to pay homage/represent an era, there's just more to ground to cover with Cowboy Carter genres/era. Jolene is the exception and it probably got forced by Dolly publicly saying she wanted Beyoncé to cover one of her songs multiple times (she probably knew Beyoncé was working on a country album). I think the I Feel Love sample in Renaissance is just as in your face as the Jolene cover, so no subtlety in neither of them anyway.

Wow those subtext points are stellar!

What other points do you have about songs like Alligator Tears, Riverdance and Tyrant?

I really hope we get it soon. My mom loves Beyonce, and her favorite genre is rock, she is SO excited. She just got diagnosed with terminal cancer, and I really hope she gets to hear the album while

I wouldn't be surprised if Bey would have auburn hair or Black hair for the cover tbh. I'm still thinking about the holloween fits with her dressed like Betty, Prince and Apollonia/Vanity. I think this era will be full of different looks. Also I feel like Act 3 is going to be really provocative. Bey is really taking her time for this one.

Not really. I just made those connections because I read "The Number Ones" by Tom Breihan and there's a chapter in which they explain the transition from 60s girl groups to The Beatles and then another with how The Beach Boys came to be (with the Chuck Berry thing mentioned), and then the connection with Cowboy Carter felt obvious.

Looking at this, I don't think the black hair works (as much as I love Bey with a brown/darker hair). It's too on the nose and blends with the black background.

If she was to change, reddish colour would look better, but I think she'd keep her blonde.

I think Jolene does offer subtext and that would be that Beyoncé through majorly altering the song (which actually aggravated a lot of people, and I suspect Beyoncé figured know purists would take issue), essentially transformed the most famous/iconinc and perhaps beloved female song in country music history to fit her brand, not changing her brand to fit the work or by extension the genre.

That says a lot about the entire ethos of what she did on the record, too, and fits her quote: "This ain't a country album, this is a Beyoncé album."

[love what you added about the other songs btw, I didn't know that! it reminds me of the use/history of the sample from Don't Hurt Yourself, too]

this is a great fake cover, but the issue with AI is it's fashion choices are always terrible. why would she be wearing a gown on the horse, why would she be wearing a dress style she really hasn't utilized since like... 2017, and one that looks more like it would be in a wedding shop selling a trend Beyoncé helped make popular than something Beyoncé would actually have worn. And then straightened bangs? lol.

The horse is cool, but while I'm critiquing it would have been more interesting if it wasn't just guitars but other rock instruments, or cords, and other stuff that the actual artist (forget his name) would do.
