RWT and Eras were the first big stadium tours after the pandemic. Everyone wanted to be outside and be seen.

I also attribute it to CC being more of an esoteric album. Much less accessible than REN and had a lot of historical significance, so not as appealing to the same amount of audiences. Not to mention some celebs im sure didn't wanna have to dress up in a yee-haw aesthetic, especially when RWT was about glamour.

Year after year these Coachella headliners continue bringing tour sets to festivals constantly trying to out do one another. Beychella was so appropriate for the setting maintaining that festival essence, it was really minimal in stage production. Raw talent and stamina on stage, no smoke and mirrors.

I disagree with this take

Bey brought major tour-level production to the festival which massively pushed the boat out for what the festival could manage. She had to fight to get that Bey Stage approved.

The pyramid of bleachers and the inverted pyramid of lighting above it, partnered with the treadmill bey stage, combined with the Drunk in Love crane, was arguably the most ambitious and maximalist stage production coachella had ever seen. And thats before we mention how she revolutionised the way Coachella sets are filmed.

Sabrina's set was high-concept, massive scale, and super cool. Beyonce paved the way for that. And if Beyonce did Coachella again today you best believe she'd be bringing her robots and her blow up horses and her sparklers with her, because she's grown since then too.

Sabrina's set wasn't recycled from her arena tour, it was a brand new production with like seven new custom sets. She worked on the show for 8 months while also touring Short n Sweet. It was impressive. You're a stan of the greatest ever pop star, there's no need to deny someone else their flowers! Especially because Beyoncé is a clear inspiration to her.

As for Bey's coachella staging, yes, the design of it was 'minimalist' in the sense that the stage mimic school bleachers, but the actual production was very maximalist. Literally at the time people were in awe. Other people accused Beyoncé of 'needing' major gimmicks and huge numbers of backup dancers to be able to put on a good show. Which is obviously nonsense. But indicative of the fact that Beys set was MAJOR for what people were used to at the time.

All I'm seeing is people talking about Sabrina at Coachella and if it was better than Beychella. Last years N/A

I was actually shading a certain artist in my 2 posts since it's Coachella season and I'm getting my licks in, not regarding Sabrina. I couldn't care less about her.

It wasn't better than Beychella, but it was still a massively impressive production with solid vocals and a lot of imagination behind it. The scale of it was obviously more ambitious, and grander than people expected she could pull off. That's why people are impressed. And tbh I do think it deserves to go down as one of the most impressive festival productions.

But yeah, I'm seeing so many Hive members get weirdly combative against anyone who gets praise for their coachella set. We don't need to. It's actively in our interest for people to be inspired by Beyoncé and go on to adopt her ethic and approach to execute their own vision. I personally love seeing the next generation level up off the back of her hard work!!

The production and props weren't the focal point of the Beychella acclaim anyway. It was for the Olympic levels of stamina, the coordination, the vocals, the choreography, what the human body is capable of after pregnancy complications, and the levels of dedication/discipline to achieve that. It was never the smoke and mirrors or excessive theatrical props. I'm not forgetting last year when this site said Beychella wasn't theatrical when it culturally embodied that. They also called it "cheap" while ironically throwing smokes and mirrors around.

Absolutely yes!!

I guess I just mean to say the amplification of production value that Beyoncé brought to coachella is often overlooked, and Sabrina's major scale set pieces are indebted to Beychella too.

Beychella's legacy is threefold:

• The way you can reimagine your discography for the set

• The Olympian feat of the performance

• The scale and ambition of the production

But one subtle thing Bey consistently gets right for festival shows specifically tho imo (even back in 4 era) is not having a big screen dominate the stage and leaving out the video interludes.

It just doesn't work in a festival setting and Sabrina and Gaga could do with learning this. If you're watching from home, watching a screen on top of a screen is a weird experience (and distracts from the fact that you're meant to be watching a live performance) and if you're in the audience, it's boring.

It's dancers, singers and performers of other art forms ; talented people keeping the show running when she leaves the stage because ultimately, these are what festivals are a general celebration of.
