She devoured a lot of times throughout her career and this is one of those moments

My favourite song of hers and one of my favourite song of all time. She has such a talent when it comes to writing catchy hooks even if the subject is as dark as this one.

Alanis always knows what's up. No one does it like her. If junkie was released today, it would be album of the decade. She literally opened the door for today's lyricists and has stayed relevant—more so now than ever—for 30+ years. She's a global icon and my absolute favourite. 

I remember this song was ruined by a classmate of mine that called the song "manos limpias"

"this supposed crime" is delivered so sharply, like woah, did she just say that  

 

"What part of our history's reinvented and under rug swept?" 

This and Uninvited deserved to be even bigger than Ironic

Her pen was on fire this whole era. The concept of such a fun upbeat song with such dark subject matter and the framing and blaming of it in the lyrics. She really inspired me when I found her at about 14 and made me so much more interested in English language and lyricism. 
 

The whole of 2000s Alanis is so underrated. It wasn't as hard or rocky but she tackled so much good subject matter and I loved the lighter pop rock sound of the early 2000s albums. She's my fave forever

She's one of my faves too. Definitely my favorite female singer-songwriter poet in the Alternative genre, next to Fiona Apple. And ditto on Junkie. That's my favorite Lani record.

It was indeed on fire, but that is the norm with her. Some of these younger women these days that are lauded for their lyricism are just not vibrating at the same level. 

 

Flinch is like the somber version of Hands Clean. 

I've been getting into Alanis recently. So far went through the first 2 albums. My faves are See Right Through You, You Learn, Front Row

She self produced and self written her whole Under Rug Swept album by herself

 

I love that whole album, I play Hands Clean and Precious Illusions all time at work! 

 

I still don't know any MPG--former or current--who writes like her. Like literally, WHO writes like her?

Everytime I read her lyrics try to sing along, it's like a whole session studying for IELTS/SAT.

I follow her music all the way up to Flavors of Entanglement. Anything exciting after that?

 

Also I am still secretly envy of her massive succces, legacy and complete domination over my idol Jewel.
