it's never going to measure up the the OG which is perfect, that said it's alright, i'm not mad at him (thought the grammys performance was nice, he was clearly thrilled that tracy turned up)

Off topic, but can we skip over Cruel Summer when we get to that, and do Paint the Town Red instead (since that one felt more like 2023 and was a YE #21)?

Pretty odd how Doja has 2 YE #21's (with Woman in 2022).

Hard dislike. His version of the song is so lifeless. Luke did Tracy Chapman a huge disservice with his cover.

dislike this version, og is iconic. really don't appreciate how everyone thinks this is his song :eli:

not a Country fan really but i thought his cover was quite good .not as good as the original but he was able to make it his own. probably one  of the better country crossover songs this decade.

A straight caucasian male makes a gay woman of color, A LOT of unexpected money in royalty payments late in to her career from a demographic of white people (the country audience), who atypically are not known for being supportive of or welcoming of people of color.

Tracy won.

I love it, but I know y'all hate it  I love both versions and I'm so happy that they performed it together :alexz3:

Me tinks it's been done already, but it is interesting how a 2019 came to dominate 2023; although I do like sleeper hits resurging for second life.

I hear snippets of his stuff sometimes in those Hot 100 videos and really couldn't care less about him as an artist, but I think this is a decent cover, definitely more in the spirit of the original than that Jonas Blue version

Snooze & Cruel Summer both made the Top 20 in 2023 & 2024. Both songs will be skipped over since they were already done & automatically advance to the final poll between all the 2023 liked songs.

Regarding Paint the Town Red, I was planning to strictly do Top 20 songs of each year, HOWEVER like yourself, I was bummed when PTTR just missed the cut-off for 2024.

Like this post if you all think I should do a Paint the Town Red poll as a bonus after the 2023 Top 20 🤭 I wouldn't put it in the final 2023 poll, but I'd love to see the results of an individual thread for it.

It's not horrible sounding by today's country standards, but the original just demolishes. The Grammy moment was cute, but again it just made it clear he was playing second fiddle to Tracy.

Personally I think this cover is actually very good but I hate what it represents with people finding big success from create recreations/covers of things that already had their glory. Reminds me of what's going on in movies and televisions nowadays as well.

He did a great job with the song, hence, why it became such a massive hit. Absolutely like it, even Tracy was very pleased with this version.

I was indifferent to it. But since the grammys perf with tracy, it has grown on me and I love it now.

Speaking of Luke combs, do you guys remember the time the atrl swifties were suddenly stanning for like a week because he out streamed dua lipa, gaga or someone? :deadbanana2:

1. i already have the original

2. too long of a song for me to be listening to a mans voice for that long :biblio:
