  • Music will never be "over" but honestly the charts seem to be.  They just seem completely irrelevant at this point, especially with all the rule changes because of streaming.  It all just feel so chea

There is too much of everything now. We should all quit the internet and go camping or have a bonfire.

I mean, not really since we're still awaiting act iii

Monoculture is just dead. The freedom of streaming services gives us the power of venturing out on our own. I don't feel like I listen to new music at all. And it isn't like we're exposed to new music through MTV or VH1, or get things stuck on our head through the radio. The only medium thats similar to this is Tiktok and for the most part none of that is music that'll stand the test of time.

For the GP? Yes. They mostly only listen to legacy music and music they loved before.

For music stans no. I have discovered so many nonmainstream artists that I love that I never would've found before the streaming era. There is a lot of good music out there that isn't charting.

I can't see music holding significant cultural impact aside from the occasional event like Not Like Us or Chappell's rise last year

They need to completely get rid of radio from the formula, it keeps songs like Lose Control in the Top 10 for WAY too long. No one under 30 even listens to FM radio, and people over 30 don't listen to it nearly as much as they used to now that every car has Bluetooth/aux/some way to play your own media.

Also, it's been noted that catalog (older songs) have been outselling and out-streaming new songs since 2021, so I guess the general public just isn't super enthused with what the labels have been payola'ing this decade.

Lose Control is still top 10 in streaming only.

Disgusting never mind people just have horrible taste

There's more music now than there ever has been, and people have access to all of it. Even the streaming numbers bragged about aren't that crazy accounting for the US population size. People just have diverse tastes and there's insular pockets, it's not the end of the world.

Mainstream artists aren't fun anyway, streaming broke that veil. People can literally go stream the underground artists in different genres they be ripping off, so what's the point?

Western music is so bad these days like why is everyone so obsessed with racist county singer

No, the reason global songs are dominating the charts is that it's much easier to gain popularity these days, especially in countries with large populations. For instance, there are 3 Indonesian songs have recently made it into Spotify's Top 10 Global Chart, which is something unheard of. Local artists now find it easier to rise to fame compared to just a few years ago, so it probably makes people stream the "international" music less.

Ravyn being on there is cute tho! :duck:

non mainstream music is thriving for the most part, i feel like if you're a music fan you don't really pay much attention to billboard like that anyways

Like others have alluded too, for the most part, people are in their own bubbles and monoculture is pretty much dead :swing:

I've been listening to the same songs for 15 years my last fm from 2010 and the songs I listen to today are the same.

yup and Cardi's album will be the nail on the coffin its actually sad even in this climate she can barely stay stable on the hot 100  :skull:

No because nobody cares about charts irl. But if the 2020s have proved anything it that's the Hot 100 is a relic, irrelevant, and completely broken within modern day music consumption. When some of the biggest hits this year haven't even gone Top 10 on there I don't get how anybody on here can take it serious :rip:

Mainstream music is the pits but overall there's still great music out there, it's just not amplified.

monoculture death is just finally really hitting the charts the way it already did to film and tv. spotify is the biggest its ever been, listenership is just more spread out among more artists and time periods.

Ever since they introduced this new "shuffle" system, where Spotify/Streaming Services put random songs in your playlists based on your own listening behavior, Radio has become obsolete. There's no reason any longer to tune into Radio. I have my own playlist + AI recommends songs based on my liking that have a higher chance of being for me than anything Radio ever could do.

I truly believe that plays into it as well.

I am kind of having an oldies phase. How grossly american idol'd is that chart :rip: i'll continue not knowing that song or singer, thanks.

This is just the US chart, and since the US is also over this chart just represents that

The whole chart is just very depressing compared to how great it used to be years ago...........
Honestly, the U.S. keeps going downhill, and the charts really show it.......Is over for them:fan:
