I'm 34 and born in the 90's so I feel like age has a lot to do with which one someone uses more. I looked up that my age range is more Instagram otientated and someone in their 20's leads more to Tik Tok.

(Even though I'm a Kesha stan, I prefer Instagram over Tik Tok) :eli:

Instagram. TikTok has such a disgusting UI.   I can't stand the "viral", "trends", stiff straight teenage boys TRYING to dance, conspiracy theorists on TikTok. I saw someone discovering that

I barely open Instagram anymore, I hate how many ads there are and people don't seem to post as much anymore. Tiktok I use most days but I have a 30 minute time limit on it because in the pandemic I would scroll for like 2 hours + :rip:

I was 23 when I first downloaded tiktok and I felt way too old for it at the time, but now there feels like much more of a mix of people on there. I never post though.

Tiktok. The comments section is much less miserable & Insta reels are basically a watered-down, outdated version of TikTok (content wise) anyway

i have both apps and barely use them.

Instagram. TikTok has such a disgusting UI.

Tiktok

instagram is like 2 weeks behind on everything, the people in comments sections have no personality, the algorithm sucks ass (my feed is all stuff i have ZERO interest in), the ads and sponsored posts on instagram are just god awful, and it feels clunky in terms of UI

tiktok could defo be better for user experience if they removed the annoying tiktok shop but compared to insta for memes and current events it's lightyears ahead

i hateeeeEEEE tiktok and i'm 22. it just gives me "brainrot" vibes & i see it in my real life friends who are addicted to it too and i tell them the same. there's this overwhelming trend on the app of people constantly labeling everything, self diagnosing psychological disorders like it's a trend, queerbaiting, being fake, performing for attention, etc. it's also always obsessed with starting trends, for example fashion wise it feels like everyone's dressing the exact same way now just because of whatever's blowing up on tiktok that week.

instagram though while not perfect still feels more grounded to me. it wasn't built around short form video spam & pictures instead, so its feed is still more usable and less mind numbing, it doesn't just have reels. it still has space for photo sharing, art, stories, actual creativity, communities outside of just algorithm driven chaos, pages for your hobbies etc.

also tiktok's tracking is genuinely creepy & even worse than instagram's, which says a lot. i do still have tiktok installed, but only so i can view links my friends send me. i never actively scroll or use it beyond that tbh.

so yeah, Instagram FOR ME.

For what I use both for, TikTok.

I don't post on instagram and I mostly use TikTok for the humour. Reels is awful and behind, so instagram isn't useful to me.

I had to delete tiktok because of how much it annoys me. never used it again since like 2022 lol.

Instagram all the way. I still post on there

you realize tiktok is extremely good at recommending stuff you're interesting in right...? it's called FOR YOU page for a reason so no shade but you should start wondering why the algorithm thinks you want to see teenage boys dancing and conspiracy theories :rip:

OT: tiktok. like mentioned above, it's way less miserable, more positive overall (because the algorithm is insane and fast so you generally only see things and people you're interested in), and funnier

i don't think age has anything to do with it. it's not 2021-2022 anymore. everyone is on tiktok nowadays and there's content for everyone. your page is basically a reflection of you

i genuinely only have stuff that i like on my page

i genuinely do not care what other people have going on in their lives so definitely not instagram

i dont really use either but i look at tiktok more because i dont have to keep opening new incognito tabs to avoid being harassed for not having an account

I'm starting to use TikTok more, so i can stay young and trendy, but it always feels like everyone is trying to sell you cheap garbage.

I like that Instagram is mainly pictures and videos of hot guys.

Girl I saw all of those things within 10mins after installing TikTok for the first time. That plus This filter shows if your teeth are yellow 50 fkn times.

And I'm absolutely not into the whole FOR YOU and aLgOrItHmS.

Tiktok. You can find really useful information and accounts across numerous niches. The search function has even been more helpful than Google's crusty and clutterred ass with things like recipes, DIYs, learning how to do certain things, etc.

Meta as a whole is awful so the only thing I use Instagram for is for checking in friends' stories now and then.
