Missing Top 10 ≠ Flop

Featured Replies

Some major girl-pop hits failed to reach the Top 10 in the US because of the slowness of Billboard's formulas

Do you know other songs that peaked out of top 10 but they are great hits?

Peaks are really just about the flavour of the moment and doesn't necessarily mean a song is a smash. Look at some of the Travis Scott songs that have debuted and peaked at the top early on only to tank just as fast.

especially Happier than Ever (Song) was robbed with that #11 peak while TIA, Your Power and My Future all got a top 10 peak. And to think HTE is bigger than all of them combined :rip:

WWIMF? ended up being bigger than all the other Barbie smashes while having the lowest peak too at #13 :rip::rip:

Run The World (Girls) peaked at #29 but it is arguably one of Beyoncé's most well-known songs.

in 2025 a lot if not most of incredibly popular songs barely charts in the top 50 or don't even chart at all. "pain" by pinkpantheress is on its way to 1B streams and i dont even think it charted at all :deadbanana4:

It's different times now billboard chart peak doesn't mean much anymore

Spotify indicates if the song is successful or not

yeah it's about timing too

in the streaming era longevity is more important

the bb h100 is not as impactful as it used to be, ever since all the frauds and kpops scamming their way in, stans just use peaks to drag other artists

the US market is still the biggest but with the growth of streaming services music is more accessible and more global now than in 2000s-2010s

the global chart is rather new but I can see it having more impact than h100 in the future

There's a reason we always used to refer to the "Top 40," at least in the US.

You're wrong, that's why Jimin's Like Crazy (#1) is bigger and more remembered than any of those songs!!!

especially when only the BB100 is considered... When will we stop treating the US as the center of the universe?

NDA almost missed the top 40 but yeah so ridiculous that Your Power and My Future peaked higher just because they were released earlier :rip: and now HTE has more than 2b streams

oh wait I thought it peaked higher, my fault

Gheys on ATRL have insane standards. They think a lead single missing Top 3 is a bomb when most artists will only see a handful Top 10s on the Hot 100 in their lifetime. :rip:

Eras like TF/M, TD, 1989, Loud, 21, etc are the exception and not the norm.

Billie and Dua are the prime examples of this. Their peaks are mostly awful.

The digital sales age from 2006-2016 was kinda the golden age of Pop where we had soooo much control over the charts since we were the ones who bought singles. The GP was just pirating, listening on Youtube or on the radio.

With Streaming rising after 2016 we lost that control again to the GP and their whims.

billboard ranked love you like a love song as the biggest hit that peaked at number 22

Top 40 is a hit.

Pop stan brain rot is real tho lol

:giraffe: Speak on it! Especially when the majority of pop culture communities include members from across the globe.

For reference, here's how some of these songs performed on the Official UK Singles Chart.

  • "Houdini": pk. #2; 7 wks in the top 10; 35 wks charting
  • "Delicate" underperformed in the UK, peaking at #45 and spending 15 wks charting
  • "Into You" had a similar performance on both markets, peaking at #14 for three non-consecutive weeks and spending 33 wks charting.
  • "Abracadabra": pk. #3 x2; 8 wks in the top 10 so far.
  • "I'm A Slave 4 U": pk. #4; 2 wks in the top 10; 18 wks charting
  • "Happier Than Ever": pk. #4; 7 wks in the top 10; 33 wks charting
  • "What Was I Made For?": pk. #1; 8 wks in the top 10; 38 wks charting
  • "Run The World (Girls)": pk. #11; 19 wks charting
  • "She Wolf": pk. #4; 5 wks in the top 10; 21 wks charting
  • "What About Us": pk. #3 x3; 8 wks in the top 10; 33 wks charting
