Babylon is such a classic Taylor song and something I want her to keep doing (using her experiences through the lens of someone else's story) but apparently that one is awful too? It just feels like the rep-lover timeline again

TS13 and every album onwards will be panned, simply because the people reviewers don't evaluate anything in a vacuum, they always take both her previous work and her current image to give their "criticism". That became clear with TTPD BTW

A bit rough cover here, but as always, really good Taylor Swift songs are hiding beneath noisy production and vocal effects. I could probably appreciate this song a lot more as an acoustic version.

I do think the critical narrative will turn back for the better eventually, but only after she's no longer the biggest star on the planet.

So we may be waiting a while!

But I really really love the actual track. I think it will grow on many people. I said this in the album thread, but I'm expecting a Hate That I Made You Love Me trajectory. I think the video will also bring a lot of people around if it's as good as it looks.

I'm sorry but Pitchfork is innocent. If stupid Swifties stopped giving them the engage they desperately want, they would stop. Internet is rage bait culture right now and it won't change for a while. We need to get better and choose where to spend our energy.

I get that most of the Swifties replying to them are probably bored teenagers, but it's our job to not spend energy on detractors like them.

I'm actually kind of convinced that if Ruin The Friendship was track 5 and Eldest Daughter was like track 7, the discourse around Showgirl withing Swifties would be different. I hope that she stops the "track 5" tradition after TS13, because I feel like she's constantly pressured to release an emotionally heavy song and she sometimes misses.
