Did Gaga surpass Brit?

They have another 11 years though before they are as old as BOMT is now. That's a ******* long time, will they continue to hold space () until 2035? Britney's biggest hits continue to be relevant even after she has completely evaporated from the music industry, with no tours or recurrent performances etc to help her. Again it feels a bit premature to suggest that Gaga has fully surpassed her in every aspect when that's what Britneys legacy is

But in 2035... BOMT will still be 11 years older than them? That makes no sense.

  • idk but both surpassed xtina.

  • Outselling or outlasting Britney doesn't mean the other becomes "Princess of Pop" or "Madonna's heiress", or else Taylor and Rihanna would be that way before Gaga. The title is very much tied to Britn

  • Duh! All of Brit's peers have surpassed her. She's retired for a reason.

Yes. And I should add that while Britney had a huge impact, it's highly overrated by pop music fans. Several acts from the late 1990s and early 2000s are doing better than her these days.

Always surprised when people fall for super obvious bait like this.

not when Toxic is a bigger than any Gaga song

In what metric? Because Poker Face is bigger in total SPS units, total and daily Spotify streams (despite Toxic's playlisting reach being 42 million more than Poker Face's), daily and total YT views, pure sales, chart runs, recurrent stats on the Billboard Global 200, PF has a bigger parent album (that's still charting), and they both won the same Grammy. Now that doesn't change the fact that both are remembered classics and pop perfection though.

Ot: The only metric Gaga hasn't surpassed Britney in is album sales. Though Britney also had to deal with a ton of abuse that understandably put her off from wanting to be involved within the music industry. Both legends at the end of the day and I wish both the best.

Britney has 5 smash albums

…BOMT

Oops

Britney

In The Zone

Circus

Plus Blackout and Femme Fatale were decent successes with big hits.

Gaga has:

The Fame Monster

Born This Way

that's it? ASIB soundtrack too.

:toofunny2:

OT: Gaga surpassed Britney awhile ago in every way :rip:

Now why is an Xtine stan getting brave in this thread?

oops and baby alone clears her and i am not even a fan of both.

In a way yes, britney stopped caring after K-fed and picked up somewhere between the OD and Blackout era but then peaced out during Circus

She surpassed her in 2018 lol Gaga has more classics and much more global hits.

I'll give Brit credit that she had way more pop longevity- for example, Britney's #1s 10 years in are pop and solo whereas Gaga's are ballads and collabs. But Gaga will outsell Britney overall, even if she retired right now. Oh - and she has an acclaimed acting career.

I think Gaga did, yes

but people in this thread putting Blackout and Joanne in the same pot is taking me out :skull: extreme delusion

Who?... Pink? Avril? Enrique? Timberlake? BEP? Gwen? They might be active and touring but Britney is still consumed more on streaming platforms.

I'll give you Beyonce if we count Destiny's Child. And Queen Shakira of course.

If this are the kind of threads that will keep being made, I hope the server stays down forever.

How is Gaga surpassing Britney at all if they've always been different artists doing different things... They both excelled at what they were supposed to do and that's why they are Pop Royalty. There's room for both of them.

I mean, Bad Romance and Toxic are almost on the same level of popularity :foxaylove2:

Yes she did but that's not saying much. Both fell off hard and fast, but GaGa at least has longevity on her side. Also, surpassing brit doesn't make you the heir the Madonna. Otherwise, there are plenty of heirs.

Love brit but obv Gaga has surpassed her for a while now

Yes, but we all saw how Britney's career path was derailed, be serious :dies:

Britney doesn't have a single song as good as Judas so ...

Yes Britney was left in the 2000's, sadly. Gaga is more versatile, tackling a lot of different fields artistically, and is capable of playing with her sound to mantain herself relevant.

In some ways, sure. In others, not so much. For me Britney will always be the princess of pop. Both artists will always be iconic though.

Nope. But it's almost unfair to mention the longevity of Britney's career for obvious reasons.

No

Britney never needed help for her eras to be successful

not Superbowl, not Ariana, not Bruno

love her but :/

Yes and no. In terms of longevity of success absolutely yes, Britney never had a DWAS. But it is hard to surpass the cultural legacy of Britney Spears. Gaga is yet to have songs that are still classics absolutely everyone knows 25 years later like BOMT, Oops and Toxic. Even young gen z and gen alpha know these songs. It remains to be seen if Gaga's hits will retain that relevancy though I feel Poker Face & Bad Romance are on their way.

This is funny

yall talk about longevity but ignore the eras where Gaga was always on underperforming

:fan:

Gaga was already struggling on her 3rd era

Britney was the best selling Entertainer according to Forbes, on her 3rd era...

Overrated?

If anything, it's underrated looking at this thread and the forum as a whole :skull:

I am interested to hear who are the acts from the late 1990s, that are doing better than Retired Ol' Britney here tho

(add the early 2000s too, altho I guess it's P!nk?)

1. The Fame Monster

2. BTW

3. Circus
