Girl, more versions for anything is helpful in the streaming era in ANY country. That's why we famously get so many remixes and EPs that give stans different versions to loop.

 

Look at how LSF raised their global profile by releasing 12 different versions of "Hot." They have insane streaming success on Spotify.

 

Another great example is Taylor Swift. She released 12 versions of "Anti Hero."

 

Yes, there are a few artists who smash with only one track like Billie Eilish, but most big streaming artists release as many versions as possible.

it's not helping with streaming, you must be kidding, that's MAYBE valid only in the kpop world, but unless the remix isn't a solid product it's not doing anything 

 

it's just a way to inflate THE SALES of the track to push it on the chart, obsessed people have more versions to buy (including Taylor's fanbase) - but that will change soon enough since Billboard is changing the rules

the only artist that has remixes among the most popular tracks on Spotify is Jimin and it's very telling

In aespa's case, Whiplash was originally recorded and planned for release in English only. The Korean version was recorded later.

 

So SM has been sitting on the English ver. all this time. They probably saw the crazy longevity that the song has and decided to finally release it, since it's already been in the vault all along. So, in this case there's not much to lose by them putting it out. Localized versions will still do something to promote the song, even if it's only small. 

 

 

crazy how they this base was clowning their global chart performance 3 years ago and now they're about to surpass the global hits of their peers.

I agree, I think because the version already exists, this is probably exactly how SM feels, it won't hurt. 

 

They were originally going to release it as part of an English album in early 2024, which would have been way more risky, but SM scrapped the project.

kpop companies are completely out of touch when it comes to the choice of the English singles… from Better Things to Whiplash, two different sides of the spectrum and none makes sense for the western single
