Hating on Katy Perry is so cool

 

The high points of the album for me though.

 

1. The last 30 seconds of Nirvana. I like the beat drop. But since it's Dr.Luke's production, I hate it.

2. Doechii's verse on IAHHM.

3. Crush is the best song on the album, but still like a 5/10 track. The chorus while otherwise cute (for like a new pop girl tbh) would be better without the obnoxious MY HEART GOES LAA DA DA DII DI LA LA DII DI part. 

4. The '' why you so why you so '' part of Artificial. 

 

What is completely weird about the entire production of the album that there is no building up on like... any song. It remains flat throughout all the songs, both vocally and production wise. Why? It would've really helped some songs to have a much more fuller than life, explosive end to the songs that builds up throughout the bridge to the final chorus.

I really tried my best to come in with no preconceived notions even if I absolutely did not click with the singles. Fantastic visuals, though.

 

My main complaint is not even appliable ONLY to 143, but any pop girl that decides to release her dance album: How are you gonna make a good dance album with 2 minute songs? (Before any Kitten comes for me, I had the exact same complaint about Chromatica when it came out, spare me with the bullying thing). Dance music is about letting production shine and explode, structure, different sections in one song, callbacks. There is no leeway to do that in a 2-minute song. Disco (Extended) by Kylie was vastly better than the original, for example. It allowed the album to be fully fleshed out. A 2-minute dance track will almost always feel incomplete.

 

My other complaints are quite the same as everyone else, so it bears no repeating. While I've had issues with some Katy songs, they never felt like they lacked personality. This does, sadly. I think she felt too much pressure to get commercial success again, and it really hindered her as she decided to play it too safe. Safe worked in 2010, not anymore. People want personality, uniqueness and authenticity (Is that authenticity always real? Probably not, but at least the illusion of it). This has no character.

 

To end with a positive note, Nirvana bumps. But then again, would've benefited from a bridge and at least another minute of runtime. The inclusion of her daughter in Wonder was also a very sweet moment.

Well yes cuz I'm a fan and I'm here to discuss and read about her new music

You won't catch me in the base threads and album threads of artists I don't like because some of us just don't have the questionable inward disposition to constantly be all up in the the fans' faces of artists we don't like

 

i need to go, but this is the album of the year.  Thank You Miss Katy. Cant Wait for rock in rio tomorrow!
