I truly believe she doesnt give a shiz about her pop music anymore. This truly sounds like a collection of demos that was "refined" in the span of two weeks and they called it a day. I'm taking Gorgeous and IHHM and running.

 

and before this deranged Kat comes for me... I truly ROOT for Katy and truly wanted 2024 to be her comeback year (also a big Smile apologist).

But her disgusting choices and catastrophic output this era can not be brushed off. Truly a downfall :(

This album is HIDEOUS.  Jesus Mary and Joseph I can't believe people (Katy, her team, etc) listened to these songs and were like "Yep this is it". How can people with such poor ear for music still have jobs. This album is repulsive

I have a feeling that her team added up the number of views in Tik Tok and on Twitter with nostalgic posts, got a figure of "50 million views", and decided that 50 million people were waiting for her return and would definitely buy singles and an album.

I wanna know the truth even if it hurts me.

 

The truth is Wonder is the only song on the album that doesn't sound and feel uninspired. No surprise Dr. Luke didn't touch that one. Katy knew exactly what she was doing by not letting Luke touch a track with her offspring on it. It's a shame she couldn't give the same courtesy to her 'friend who she grew up with in the business' when she decided to work with him again. Pretty harsh but still the truth.mp3

Ok, now i had more time with it so here's my thoughts:

 

Woman's World - I kinda get why they wanted this one to be the lead single. The production is fine, pure radio candy and i think it was made with that in mind... the real problem is on the lyrics. I know Katy loves her cheesy empowerment anthems but it's just a bunch of IG captions made for soccer moms that would've been more effective 8 years ago. It's not the worst song in the world like everyone painted out to be... it's just meh. 6/10

 

Gimme Gimme - I LOVE the melody on this one, but at the same time it doesn't go anywhere and the lyrics could've been better. The "trippy trippy daddy" line is cringe af but i'll see that as camp! 21's verse is lazy and sloppy, you can tell he only did that for the check and call it a day. Should've been another rapper. 7/10

 

Gorgeous - A whole ass bop and i'm kinda biased bc i stan Kim so i was def ready to love this one anyways. It only bothers me how it's openly supposed to sound like Unholy and how Kim's voice is drowned in autotune when it wasn't needed. I also missed her "Woo-Ah" right before her verse and idk why she didn't use it. But it's great regardless. 9/10

 

I'm His, He's Mine - Def a surprise on this album cause based on snippets i was ready to dislike this one, but it's good! I think the sample is great and Doechii brings a cool factor to it. Good choice as a single. 9/10

 

Crush - While i'm not crazy about it, i think it should've been the lead single. It's just a good electropop song and the gays would go crazy for it just like they went for Padam Padam. A non-cringe video with WW budget would've been great. Too late now. 7/10

 

Lifetimes - A great single choice but it has zero personality and could've been by any DJ ft. a UK girl. It's too repetitive but it's effective, so i don't mind. And it's a bop. 8/10

 

All the Love - This sounds like a PRISM song. Reminds me of Love Me and Ghost. I think it's cute but that's about it. 7/10

 

Nirvana - I never got the hype for this one, it sounds straight from Eurovision (not the film) 2014. Some parts of it also reminds me of Hold It Against Me, which is a song i don't like either. 6/10

 

Artificial - This one is pretty interesting and i think it's a highlight on the album bc she's experimenting. It's clearly an attempt to create a new E.T. but def got her out of a comfort zone and it has a pretty different structure. JID verse is great and far better than 21. 8/10

 

Truth - A filler and the lyrics are surface-level, Chat-GPT generated mess but i can't help but love this one. I think the melody is great and pretty simple. Cute and effective, it's among my favorites on the album. 9/10

 

Wonder - I'm still torn if i liked this one or not. I like some elements of it - the melody during the chorus is amazing and the message too, but at the same time i think it's sooo cheesy and the lyrics reminds me of some P!nk songs. Soccer moms will go crazy for this one. And the breakdown gives me Swedish House Mafia in 2013. 7/10

 

 

Ok - i don't think the album is Katy's best, there isn't an complete awful song in it while it doesn't have a huge highlight either. For me, it's a pretty competent pop album that i can listen while doing my daily activities, at the gym etc but also it's pretty forgettable. I feel like it's an album about nothing - she's literally doesn't have much to say, or an overall concept. It just feels like she just did what she thought the gays/her fans wanted and went with it. Some lyrics sounds like she made in less than an hour just to match the beats and that's it. But hey, it's pop music and it's not supposed to be more than it actually is, so i don't mind really.

 

tl;dr: It's not her best album but it's also far from being the atrocity some people will say it is. It's just ok/there and there's some fun if you're looking for quick bops without overthinking. My rating for it is a 7/10

One of the worst albums I've ever had the unfortunate displeasure of sitting through. She should be ashamed of herself for actually putting this out. Absolutely horrid. It literally put me in a sour mood. 

This is awful  It's sad because this album shows that there's not really a need or space for Katy Perry in today's music landscape
